HMS NEWS IN THE MIDDLE
EDUCATE - MOTIVATE - INSPIRE
Dear parents and families of Harding students,

Welcome back! Returning to school in January is always filled with renewed energy and resolve to make a positive difference in the lives of all the members of our school community.

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our Holiday Concerts in December, and to the staff and students for putting on such great shows.

We start 2019 with a focus on responsibility. Working with students to help them learn to accept personal responsibility is a critical part of what we do each day. Being responsible means others can depend on you. You are accountable for your actions. When things go wrong and you make a mistake, you make amends instead of excuses. When you are responsible, you keep your agreements. You give your best to any job.

Just remember, every year is a new beginning, every day is a new start. Let’s start out this New Year right by being kind, eager to learn new things, thoughtful, helpful, hardworking and of course responsible. As stated by Carl Bard, “Although no one can go back and make a new start, anyone can start from now and make a new ending”. Here is to a brand new start where the possibilities are endless. I look forward to witnessing the many successes and achievements of our students as the year unfolds.

Sincerely,

Principal Bryan Mills

Attention: Mrs. Arlesic's 7th and 8th grade ELA classes!

Students are REQUIRED to have a "book of choice" to read EVERY WEDNESDAY!! We encourage students to read daily, but we make a point to all be reading in class on Wednesdays. Sudents will be considered "unprepared" for class if they do not bring a book with them EVERY WEDNESDAY! "Unprepared" can result in either a 0 for participation or a lunch detention. Please consider visiting the local library or stuffing your child's stocking with a book or two!

A message from our nurse
Flu season is here! Please teach your children to wash their hands well and often! Please keep your child home if he/she has a fever, cough, sore throat, vomiting, and /or diarrhea because it is probably the flu. Being seen quickly for a diagnosis will make the anti-virals work better. Flu usually needs 5 days of recovery time at a minimum to keep from spreading it to others. The student must be 24 hours fever free without medication before they should return to school.
The Smiles Program will return this year to HMS for a dental visit March 26 and 27. Please note that if your child has been seen by a dentist within the last 6 months (since October) then they will not be able to be seen at Harding. Please return any forms sent home promptly as plans need made to service our students in a timely manner. Forms will go home in February.
Please check with your doctor with every well visit to see if your child is up to date on their immunizations. Remember 7 th graders will need a meningococcal vaccine and a Tdap vaccine by August for fall classes. Please send in paperwork proving vaccination promptly.
Any questions feel free to call the nurse. Thank you for your help in keeping our students healthy!

Thanks
Amy Neely, RN, BSN, CSN
