Message from our Principal

Dear Parents & Families,

We here at Harding Middle School hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing holiday season. As we begin a new semester, I would like to wish you a very Happy New Year! I trust you had a wonderful winter break with family and friends. As we celebrate this new year, it is always a great time for looking back to the past, but more importantly, looking forward to the coming year. It is a time to reflect on the changes we want, or need, to make and resolve to follow through on those changes. As we begin 2020, I want to assure everyone that the high expectations in academics set from the beginning of the year will continue as we begin our second semester.

There is no school on Monday, January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday. I draw your attention to one of Dr. King’s most famous quotes: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." It’s easy to point to those that disagree with us and say they are wrong. It is much more difficult to dialogue with them and come to some sort of understanding of one another. Dr. King invites us to look to the light and to look to love, when dealing with those with whom we disagree. What a great reminder on this National Holiday in his honor!

Finally, on behalf of HMS’s faculty and staff, thank you for your continued support of our students and the work we do for them. We are ready to keep educating and exploring new challenges with our students. As a school community, we value the relationship between home and school. With that said, we are hopeful that you may have an opportunity to attend our many upcoming events.

It is truly the community, parents, and staff partnering and working together that allows us to maintain the successes we have so long enjoyed here at Harding! As always, if you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact a teacher or me directly. We are here to work together to provide the best possible education for your student! My e-mail address is  or you can reach me by phone at Harding Middle School, (740) 282-3481.

Family Medical Care School Based Health Center

Starting January 13th, CHANGE, INC. will be able to start providing care for those students who turn in their Family Medical Care packets. This school based Health Center has licensed healthcare staff that will be located in Harding Middle School. They can provide well check exams, sick visits, injury treatments, immunizations, allergy shots, ADHD evaluations and treatments, behavioral health, chronic health care maintenance for diabetes, seizures and asthma, all within the school. The School Based Heath Care, by no means, replaces your child's pediatrician or family provider. The providers will assure a summary of the visit will be sent to your family provider . Parents can schedule appointments for their child before, during, or immediately after school. Parents are also welcomed at the appointments if they would like to be there.

To give an example of what our School Based Health Center will do, the school nurse calls home stating that your child came to her with an earache. With your permission AND if you filled out & turned in the Medical Care packet, your child will be sent immediately over to the location that houses our School based Health Center. There, they will be able to evaluate them to see if they have an ear infection. If so, your child can be treated, they can order the medication and have your child return to class or let the office know if they spoke to the parents and are sending them home.

The school Based Health Care hours will be Monday - Friday 7:30AM - 3:30PM at Harding Middle and Big Red. The Elementary Schools will be open one day a week at each site. To obtain a form you can click the button below, print the forms and return them to the school.
