A Message From Mr. Mills

What's Happening In November

November 2023

Message from our Principal:

The quarter of school is now in the books and we are moving along toward the holiday season. Everyone has been working hard and the accomplishments of our students both academically and athletically are evident. The weather is colder and the clocks will “fall back” this Sun., Nov. 5th. We would like to take a minute to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving break will start Wed., Nov. 22nd through Fri., Nov. 24th. There is no school on those dates. Students/staff will return on Mon., Nov. 27th, 2023.

If you have a question about what is occurring in your student’s class, please get in touch with your student’s teacher. Your child’s classroom teacher is always the place to start. If you still have concerns, then you should contact the administration staff for support. We all need to work together to benefit our students.

If you would like to contact me, my e-mail address is bmills@rollred.org. You can also reach me by phone at Harding Middle School at (740) 282-3481.

Sincerely,

Principal Bryan Mills

What we did in October

Join us in celebrating October PBIS students. These students are great examples of what HMS represents! Keep up the great work! #StallionWAY

Over the course of the last 8 weeks, Mrs. Robison's 5th-grade students have been studying Earth's systems, including the atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere, and biosphere. They have learned about the interaction between these systems and the role of gravity within each one. The students have also conducted several experiments using the scientific method, such as growing a terrarium, observing the development of tadpoles, and learning about the differences between salt and freshwater. Once they had a good understanding of the Earth's major systems, they applied the engineering design process to develop a filtration system for producing clean drinking water from contaminated samples.

The 8-week program concluded with a visit from Ms. Irene Moore, who works at the Soil and Water District of Jefferson County. Ms. Moore demonstrated how human behavior can affect the water systems in our county, using a fun and interactive Watershed model. This was an excellent way to emphasize the importance of taking care of our waterways.

Phynyx Fleming was our 8th grade essay contest winner. The essay topic was about the importance of community service. Phynyx was asked to read her essay at the Honor America Assembly at the high school.

NJHS members led a ceremony to induct 40 new members into the National Junior Honor Society.

Attention parents of incoming 7th graders,

The Meningococcal and T-dap vaccines are required for entry into the 7th grade. This is an Ohio Department of Health mandate. Proof of the vaccines or an exemption must be on file by the 3rd week of school in 2023 or they will not be allowed to return to school until it's done. Please be aware attendance and truancy procedures will still take place if your student is missing school. Check with your child's physician to make sure all immunizations are up to date.

Change, Inc will take appointments for 7th-grade shots. The School-Based Health Center is open every day from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.

You can schedule an appointment for your child to be seen during school by calling 740-284-5712 Option 3.
