What's Happening In December

What's Happening: December 2024

Message from our Principal:

Hello Parents and Families of HMS,

I would like to take this time to wish each of you a happy holiday!!! Enjoy this season with your loved ones. Family makes the holidays special and each of our young Stallions makes Harding such a magical place. We are so proud of them!!!

December is a time to share weather-related school closing information. We use our district School Messenger system, radio, and local television stations to notify parents when school delays or closings are announced.

December also signals the arrival of our Christmas break. All Steubenville City Schools will observe winter break from December 23rd to January 3rd, and classes will resume on Monday, January 6th. Stay safe and best wishes for the new year!

Finally, I want to remind all families of the dangers of social media and the cyber community in general. We have programs to educate today’s students about these dangers and will continue to educate all children on the precautions they should take when online. Please do not hesitate to ask us for any assistance or questions you may have if you should ever become suspicious of your child’s online behaviors. We are here to help and encourage everyone to make sure they are aware of what’s happening on their child's device.

If you have a question about what is occurring in your student’s class, please get in touch with your student’s teacher. Your child’s classroom teacher is always the place to start. If you still have concerns, then you should contact the administration staff for support. We all need to work together to benefit our students.

If you would like to contact me, my e-mail address is bmills@rollred.org. You can also reach me by phone at Harding Middle School at (740) 282-3481.

Sincerely,

Principal Bryan Mills

Winter Break

No school Monday, December 23 through Friday, January 3

Classes resume on Monday, January 6

HMS Parents,

  • If you have been sent a referral letter for vision and hearing screening failure, please have your child seen by a professional. It is so important for your child to be able to see and hear well to be successful at school. Please return the paperwork provided that the doctor has filled out. If you have any concerns or needs please call me at extension 4125.

  • Please address hygiene routines with your pre-teen and teenager. Review the importance of washing daily, brushing their teeth at least 2 times a day, using deodorant, and wearing clean clothes to school. Middle School is tough enough, let's help them thrive while here. If you need help with any issues or supplies, please reach out as we have places and resources to help.

  • Watch for the Mobile Dentist forms to come home the first week of December. The registration forms are due back before Christmas Break. The mobile dentist will be at HMS on January 24,27 & 28

What we did in November

The Veteran's Breakfast was a great success.

Our Leo’s Club donated over 100 shoeboxes filled with toys for the Samaritan Purse’s Operation Christmas Child!

Harding Band performing at the Varsity Show.

Our NJHS students volunteered to help the West staff decorate for the holidays.

Our Parent and Family Involvement Committee passed out hot chocolate to our parents at drop-off.

For November’s Overcoming Obstacles lesson on kindness, Harding students worked together to make HMS wreaths and a healthy snack box to share with our community partners.

PM Latchkey

~ HMS has PM Latchkey only &

building doors open at 7 am

~ Fees are $10 per day, per child

Please see the photo for our am drop-off and pick-up patterns. This must be strictly followed in order to avoid congestion and dangerous situations for our students.

In the am...(Follow the green arrows)

  • All Students must enter through the cafeteria doors.
  • Cars will be signaled to pull all the way down to the personnel on duty.
  • Do not stop and drop off students in the middle of the traffic flow. Keep driving until traffic stops.
  • When the vehicle stops, students should exit their vehicle curbside and get onto the sidewalk.
  • Do not allow your student to wait in the car to be dropped off at the door (Even if it's cold, raining or snowing). These extra stops at the doors cause unnecessary & hazardous congestion on Sunset Blvd.

In the pm...

HMS will dismiss in the following manner...

  1. 2:30-35 - Bus students will exit the building
  2. 2:35-40 - Walkers will exit the building
  3. 2:40-45 - Car riders will exit. Students will walk to your car. No front door pick up until after 2:50

  • The cars must pull into parking spots while waiting on their student after school. If you are parked in the way while waiting for your child to come out, you will be asked to pull around.
  • Skip the first row that faces Sunset (Buses start lining up in that row).
  • Please observe directives from staff on duty.

Your compliance is necessary for the safety of our students. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.
