October News

Dear HMS Families,

The fall season is here and the conclusion of the first 8 weeks of school is rapidly approaching. I'm excited to report the school year is going well. All classrooms have set goals and are working hard putting in the necessary time to be successful. Our first Parent/Teacher Conferences for the 2021-2022 school year will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021, from 3 to 6 pm, or Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 3-6 pm. This will provide an opportunity for you to meet your child's teachers, open the lines of communication and see what your student has been learning this year. We encourage you to bring your student to open house. We want our students to take ownership and responsibility for their learning and behavior. Your child can lead you around the building and participate in student-led conferences.

We want to take this time to also recognize the recent trends on social media. Yesterday you should have received an email regarding the influence TikTok is having on the youth across America. Please take the time to read it and communicate with your kids on how to be safe and smart when using social media. HMS will follow the student discipline handbook policies to the fullest when dealing with any of the unwanted trends occurring in school.

If I can ever be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me. My e-mail address is or you can reach me by phone at Harding Middle School, (740) 282-3481.

Proper Sleep
"According to the CDC, proper sleep is critical to prevent type II diabetes, obesity, injuries, poor mental health, and problems with attention and behavior. It is important that parents enforce good sleeping habits and model good sleeping habits. Good sleep will help the immune system and we could all use that help right now.
  •  Children 6-12 years old need 9-12 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night.
  •  Children 13-18 need 8-10 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night.

HMS PBIS Program

In December of last year, we at HMS rolled out our new PBIS program "The Stallion W.A.Y". This reward system recognizes the positive behaviors, attitudes, and efforts our students present with every day. Since rolling out this program we are ecstatic to announce that over 230 referrals have been submitted and that number increases daily!
