Harding Middle School Family Newsletter

Dear Parents & Families,

We hope this newsletter finds you well! As we move into the fourth quarter, we want to extend a warm welcome to all 4th-grade parents to the HMS Newsletter. This platform will keep you informed about upcoming events and important updates that are relevant to you and your child.

Spring is around the corner, bringing with it the start of the fourth quarter of school. Our students are preparing for their spring assessments, and our teachers are diligently working to ensure they are ready. We are thrilled with the progress we see in our classrooms and are confident that we will achieve our progress goals for state testing.

Tips for Success:

  • Talk with your child about staying focused on the test without becoming stressed.
  • Ensure your child gets plenty of sleep and eats a well-balanced breakfast.
  • Encourage attendance during testing days, as every student’s presence is vital.

Extracurricular:

  • Our winter sports teams finished strong in February, and now we welcome the track, baseball, and softball seasons.
  • We encourage our student-athletes to stay focused in the classroom to remain eligible.
  • Best of luck to students participating in the Regional Spelling Bee, District Solo & Ensemble competition, and the Drama cast preparing for The Wizard of Oz this May.

A heartfelt thank you to all students, coaches, directors, and our supportive parents and fans for your dedication to our extracurricular programs.

Finally, on behalf of the faculty and staff at HMS, we want to express our gratitude for your continued support of our students and their achievements. Our very first community BINGO night had an amazing turnout, and we look forward to making this a regular event. The partnership between home and school is invaluable, and we recognize that our student's success is a direct result of this collaboration.

For any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to a teacher or me directly. My email is bmills@rollred.org, or you can call Harding Middle School at (740) 282-3481.

Sincerely,

Principal Bryan Mills

Attention 6th grade parents:

It's not too early to immunize your soon-to-be 7th grader during their next well visit to the doctor. 7th graders are required to receive two vaccines: Meningococcal and Tdap. If your child is unable to take these vaccines for any reason, please sign the exemption form available in the office.

Please ensure that you turn in the paperwork immediately after receiving the vaccine to avoid any lost documents.

Thank you, parents, for all you do, especially during this challenging flu season. I really appreciate your patience.

Being around loud noise for long periods of time can cause Noise Induced Hearing Loss. Once you lose your hearing, you cannot get it back.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

  • Five in 10 young people listen to their music or other audio too loudly.
  • Four in 10 young people are around dangerously loud noises during events like concerts and sports games.
  • In the U.S., 48 million people have trouble hearing with one (or both) of their ears.

World Hearing Day is a day to learn how to prevent hearing loss and promote healthy hearing. Here are some easy tips: If the sound is too loud and you cannot carry on a conversation, you are in an environment that can damage your hearing. Walk away from the sound, turn down the sound, or use hearing protection to reduce the sound coming into your ears.

PM Latchkey

~ HMS has PM Latchkey only &

building doors open at 7 am

~ Fees are $10 per day, per child

Please see the photo for our am drop-off and pick-up patterns. This must be strictly followed in order to avoid congestion and dangerous situations for our students.

In the am...(Follow the green arrows)

  • All Students must enter through the cafeteria doors.
  • Cars will be signaled to pull all the way down to the personnel on duty.
  • Do not stop and drop off students in the middle of the traffic flow. Keep driving until traffic stops.
  • When the vehicle stops, students should exit their vehicle curbside and get onto the sidewalk.
  • Do not allow your student to wait in the car to be dropped off at the door (Even if it's cold, raining or snowing). These extra stops at the doors cause unnecessary & hazardous congestion on Sunset Blvd.

In the pm...

HMS will dismiss in the following manner...

  1. 2:30-35 - Bus students will exit the building
  2. 2:35-40 - Walkers will exit the building
  3. 2:40-45 - Car riders will exit. Students will walk to your car. No front door pick up until after 2:50

  • The cars must pull into parking spots while waiting on their student after school. If you are parked in the way while waiting for your child to come out, you will be asked to pull around.
  • Skip the first row that faces Sunset (Buses start lining up in that row).
  • Please observe directives from staff on duty.

Your compliance is necessary for the safety of our students. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.
