Message from our Principal

Dear HMS Families,

The temps may still be climbing, but the fall season is here and the conclusion of the first 8 weeks of school is rapidly approaching. Our teachers are once again using Progress book to keep you informed of your student's academic progress and the end of the quarter grades. Your login stays the same from year to year, but if you should need any assistance logging in, please contact the office.

We had a great turnout for our very first Stallion Trot meeting this week. I would like to thank the parents who attended for joining the HMS Office staff and remind everyone that our next meeting is scheduled for December 5 th  at 8:30am in the HMS Café.

I'm excited to report the school year is going well. All classrooms have set goals and are working hard putting in the necessary time in to be successful. If ever you have any concerns with the school or your child, please contact your child’s teacher or office staff at your earliest convenience. Communication and early intervention are two important keys to success!
Our first Parent/Teacher Conferences for the 2019-2020 school year will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019, from 3 to 6 pm.  This will provide an opportunity to meet your child's teachers, open the lines of communication and see what your student has been learning this year. We encourage you to bring your student to open house.  We want our students to take ownership and responsibility for their learning and behavior. Your child can lead you around the building and participate in student led conferences.

If I can ever be of assistance to you please do not hesitate to contact me. My e-mail address is  or you can reach me by phone at Harding Middle School, (740) 282-3481.

ATTENTION: Pick up and Drop off

Please continue to be patient and use caution when transporting your child on school grounds to and from school. Calvin Jones Way will be reduced to one way during these times.

In the AM , we want to use the entire sidewalk to drop off students. Please pull around the building passed the café doors to the end of the yellow curb before stopping to drop off. All trailing vehicles will continue to pull forward until the traffic stops. At this moment all students are to get out of their vehicles and step onto the building sidewalk. Have your child or children ready to step out as this will help us reduce our drop off line from backing up onto Sunset Blvd. If extensive time is needed for unloading, please pull into a parking spot to accomplish this. Your understanding with is much appreciated.

In the PM , we hope everyone understands that 745 students are exiting the building in a matter of 10 minutes. Buses will pull out at 2:35pm. Walkers / pick-ups will be released at 2:37. At this time our emphasis will be on the safety of students. We will attempt to get as many students up the crosswalk as we can before any vehicles move. Please be patient and pull into a parking spot and wait for your child to walk to you. Remember to allow the multiple staff members crossing students and directing traffic to lead the dismissal. Parking along the front sidewalk is prohibited in the PM because it blocks our view of students crossing the road to find their rides. Again, it helps considerably if you park your vehicle into a spot during dismissal. Additional spots are typically available towards the stadium side. No student may be picked up at the front door or along the front sidewalk prior to 2:42. Please arrive after this time if you would like to pick them up along the front sidewalk. Use extra caution and provide yourself with additional time when traveling in the various possible weather conditions.

Thank you for everything you do to keep our kids safe.
On-line Report Cards
For this 2019-2020 school year, parents of Steubenville City Schools students will have to go online (Progress Book) to find their child's quarterly and semester grades.

SCS will be sending out a call notification to parents and guardians to remind them to check Progress Book at the end of each grading period.

Parents without access to the internet are free to go to the office to request the hard copy and one will be printed on the spot. We appreciate your support and cooperation.
