Hello Amazing Supporters!
This month, we at HNB have really upped our food game! This includes forming a partnership with Penzey's Spices to get donated, culturally appropriate spices to our clients who had SNAP benefits cut. We also got a new freezer donated (Thanks donor Arbaz Khatib!) so we can finally store extra frozen foods. And we just agreed to a partnership with Adventist Community Services of Greater Washtgton, where they will donate dry good staples to support our families once a month.
We continue to get fresh produce via our partners at So What Else, and in February, served 30 families - or 141 individuals - with two deliveries a month. Thanks to some amazing volunteers who continue to come week after week, we are getting these groceries packed and delivered to families in record time.
Still, refugee families continue to receive SNAP cancellation notices, and we expect the number of families we serve (for up to six months) will continue to grow.
While the clients HNB serves with food assistance continue to grow, those we help with furniture and household goods are shrinking (see our monthly metrics below). The flow of newcomers to the U.S. has completely stopped even as debates on the legality of that stoppage continue to wind their way through the courts. We still know of refugees who arrived in late 2025, staying with friends and relatives, are now finding housing. We will continue to provide household items to recent refugees and immigrants in need. Specifically, we are partnering with groups that help refugee domestic violence victims move into new homes, as well as those in need of furnishings who have had their partners taken and detained for months by ICE.
We are happy to assist these populations and continue to flex our setup muscles during these crazy times.
