After a very wet winter, wild flowers are blooming, trees are greening -- and weeds are everywhere.
The HOA says it's a reminder once again to clean up our yards.
Unchecked weeds and grass not only spread from yard to yard, but they also contribute to wildfire risk. At a presentation on wildfire hazards at the neighborhood's Annual Meeting in January, Jay Karlik, an assistant fire chief with Rural Metro, stressed the importance of clearing away weeds and grasses, trimming back overhanging trees and making sure loose brush is removed from roofs and property within 30 feet of our house.
All of the Foothills are at risk of fire, especially on windy days during the hotter and drier months of spring and summer, given the abundance of fresh "fuel" in nearby overgrown washes after a wet winter.
Bill Hayes, the HOA president, distributed an email to all homeowners in March, urging them to reach out to Julie Barrett, chair of the HOA's Architecture & Landscaping Committee, if they need a referral to a landscaper or weed control vendor.
On another note, Bill reminded everyone that the HOA will purchase new house numbers for homeowners, if the decals affixed to your mailbox are peeling or sun-damaged. If you do want decals, please let Bill know, so the HOA can order in bulk and save a significant amount of money.
