Due to restoration efforts over the past 20-plus years, Olympia oyster populations in Puget Sound are beginning to rebound.
Puget Sound Restoration Fund (PSRF), a non-profit organisation, is working to further this positive trend by re-establishing “self-sustaining oyster beds throughout Puget Sound to provide filtration and structured habitat for a diverse community of marine species.”
To identify areas where restoration actions might be most effective, the PSRF conducted a comprehensive investigation to assess historical hotspots and other potential locations recommended by the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife. Assessing the suitability of these specific potential restoration sites within key bays and inlets required PSRF to evaluate essential water quality factors such as temperature and salinity.
With the reliable water quality data collected from HOBO U20L & U24 data loggers, PSRF was able to rank each restoration site with the potential for restoration success.
