Make a Difference for All of Our Wildlife: Subpermittee Training Registration Now Open
This holiday season, while we celebrate the beauty of the natural world, we’re focusing on a unique way to give back—training compassionate individuals to care for injured and orphaned wildlife through our Spring Subpermittee Training Program.
Subpermittees are vital to the Wildlife Clinic of RI’s mission, working under licensed wildlife rehabilitators to care for squirrels, opossums, rabbits, baby birds, and more. Through six hours of classroom instruction, an open-book exam, and 25 hours of hands-on training, volunteers learn to feed, nurture, and prepare these animals for their safe return to the wild.
This one-of-a-kind program is offered once per year, and classes fill quickly. By becoming a subpermittee, you’ll join a community of wildlife champions making a lasting impact on Rhode Island’s ecosystems.
Learn more and register today: riwildliferehab.org/training
Help us create a brighter future for Rhode Island’s wildlife—one animal, one volunteer, one act of care at a time.

Kick Off 2025 with a Splash for a Great Cause
Start the new year with a heartwarming tradition while making a difference in the lives of local children. A Wish Come True, the oldest wish-granting organization in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, is hosting its annual Polar Plunge on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, at Easton’s Beach (First Beach) in Newport from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
This year’s event will benefit two incredible “Wish Kids”: Lars, an 8-year-old from Jamestown recovering from a stroke, and Indy, a 4-year-old from Coventry bravely battling brain cancer. Both children dream of traveling to Florida—Lars to Disney and Indy to an exclusive Marriott resort. Thanks to presenting sponsor LiUNA - RI Laborers’ District Council, these wishes will come true.
Participants are encouraged to donate $25 to take the plunge. Teams raising $1,000 or more will be entered to win a $1,500 prize. Merchandise, t-shirts, and sponsorship opportunities are also available. Proceeds will directly support A Wish Come True’s mission of granting life-changing wishes to children facing life-threatening illnesses.
Whether you plunge, sponsor, or cheer from the sidelines, your involvement matters. Let’s start 2025 by bringing hope and joy to those who need it most.
