HOLIDAY TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2021
METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART
SURREALISM BEYOND BORDERS
One of the most exciting exhibits of the fall is SURREALISM WITHOUT BORDERS at the METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART. On view are 260 paintings, photos and films shedding light on this 20th century movement which began in Paris in 1924. The period produced artwork that was often humorous and poetic, and at the same time depicted struggles for political, social and personal freedom. We are familiar with the work of Max Ernst, di Chirico, Magritte and Dali but this fascinating exhibit will dazzle us with the work of artists of 45 countries throughout the world. (closes January 30, 2022)

AFTERLIVES: RECOVERING THE LOST STORIES OF LOOTED ART describes the recovery of some of the one million works of art their theft, their post-war rescue, and their afterlives in museums and private collections. (closes January 9, 2022)

THE HARE WITH AMBER EYES is about the Ephrussi family written about in the 2010 memoir by Edmund de Waal—and showcases the breadth and depth of their illustrious art collections including Japanese netsuke, miniature carved sculptures of the Edo Period (17th-19th centuries). (closes May 15, 2022)
