Just STOP:  Attending!
I know this is an odd thing to hear a Pastor say, but what if it's what we need to hear? What if "attending" church is the problem? I'm not suggesting we stop meeting on Sundays, but that we stop attending like being before God was ever optional. Language has meaning and power. Think about this: we attend many things - children sporting events, birthday parties, concerts, dinners, fundraisers, and so on. All of them reflect a temporary commitment that is optional based on many factors. I think this way of thinking can bleed over to our understanding of the local church. But what we do on Sunday's is not to attend an event about Jesus, we come to worship our Lord and Savior. Jesus intended us to take the Sabbath seriously and dedicate it to him. I think church attendance can feel like it has a transitory component to it, that it has an optional ebb and flow to it. Showing up to worship is a statement about our loyalty and dependability towards a Holy God. This series is all about recalibrating church around making sure we have our priorities aligned with God's commands in scripture. The fact is, God expects us to worship him and not just stop by occasionally. As interdependent beings, we know mass creates momentum, and that it is impossible to be there for one another if we are not together. Join us Sunday as we continue to purge unhealthy habits and choose Jesus as a way of life.
