Cultural Christianity: Inoculated Against Jesus

This Sunday we start a 3-part series that I have been mulling over for more than a year now. So, who do you think is in more danger in the world today; the persecuted Christian or the Comfortable Christian? Anyone who knows me well, knows that I take very seriously being our churches shepherd and my calling to guide us all to find the narrow road that leads to life. I believe there is a trap found in the modern church that lends itself well towards Cultural Christianity, and Secular Salvation. In a sense it is believing that you're following Jesus, when in reality he has no idea who you are. It's a belief in a Gospel, that is not the actual Gospel of scripture, but more of a conglomeration of good intentions and partial commitments. Is it possible we came to Christ, and have no idea what we said yes to? I believe Gospel clarity is the antidote for this confusion that leads to the wide road and eventually death. The true Gospel of scripture, shows that God makes demands, meets them in Christ and then calls people to die to themselves and follow him. I am convinced it's harder to reach Cultural Christians who think they are saved, than the lost who are not saved. In North America we have made it possible to be "Religious" and not "Saved", and despite Jesus warnings against such a spiritual posture it is happening all around us. Any expression of faith that is not rooted in the scriptural expectations of God but instead is filtered first through personal desires falls short of what it means to be a follower of Jesus. I think the next 3 weeks will be challenging but it is intended to expose our blind spots to becoming inoculated against Jesus and not a viral carrier of the genuine gospel.

Sundays Scripture: Matthew 7:13-29
