The Capital Region Minority Supplier Development Council is celebrating a significant milestone this year. We are in our 50th year of existence – it is our golden anniversary! | |
Fifty years ago, the price of gasoline was $1.55, and bread was .25 cents a loaf. Business communication was conducted using fax machines versus today’s email and the Internet.
Much in our world has changed, but the MISSION of CRMSDC has endured!
Our MISSION is to assist our corporate members in improving the diversification and innovation of their supply chains by connecting them to competitively viable, certified minority business enterprises. Fifty years later, our mission is battle tested, and it continues to endure.
We are celebrating our golden anniversary throughout 2022. Please join us for our Super Matchmaker on June 29th, our Golf Outing on September 13th, and our Leaders and Legends Gala on October 12th. We are initiating new programs such as our MBE CEO Pandemic Recovery Academy (in partnership with UMGC) and continuing our Foundations Utilities program (in partnership with Exelon).
| As our mission endures, our daily goal is always to add value to our corporate members and minority suppliers! We appreciate the opportunity to serve. | |
We are witnessing some breathtaking history.
On February 25, 2022, during Black History Month, President Joe Biden nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to become the 116th Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. On April 7, 2022, during Women’s History Month, a bipartisan group of Senators confirmed Jackson’s nomination. Throughout her life, Judge Jackson stood out as a high achiever. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, then attended Harvard Law School, where she graduated cum laude and was an editor. But like many Black women, she still had naysayers. Despite it all, she succeeded. As she takes her rightful place, the historic spotlight will continue to shine. Make no mistake, women’s reproductive rights will be on the ballot this November. Voter suppression among many other challenges may make its way to the Supreme Court. Her journey will be rich.
| Judge Brown Jackson is one of many stories of incredibly successful women of color. In case you missed our podcasts, please listen at your leisure to the phenomenal businesswomen we interviewed during Women’s History Month. | |
The First MBDA Business Center in Virginia is Open |
The Virginia Business Center launched on November 9, 2021 becoming the first center to be established in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the 52-year history of MBDA. Our Mission is to manage relationships and sources of deals by promoting the interests of Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs); educating MBEs on the benefits of strategic growth alternatives (e.g., mergers, acquisitions, and/or joint ventures); and providing service referrals to MBEs of all sizes. We are staffed with a group of seasoned business consultants that provide technical assistance and business development services to promote growth and global competitiveness of MBEs. We provide the following services: business development, assisting clients to increase revenue, assisting in securing transactions, capital building, management, financial & technology assistance.
The Center kicked off 2022 with the focus on the President’s Executive Order 13985 to increase minority spend in the federal government and the historic infrastructure bill signed into law on November 15, 2021, which included codifying into law the Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency, whose mission is minority business advocacy.
We are establishing key relationships with federal, state, county and local agencies that receive federal funding to execute their work requirements. To date we have partnered with the US Department of Energy, Virginia Small Business & Supplier Diversity and Virginia Department of Transportation.
Center Outreach is well underway. Jan/Feb/Mar focus was access to capital with webinars on State Small Business Credit Initiative 2.0 where each state will get a share of a $10B fund to support small businesses, Surety Bonding and Federal Agencies Homeland Security and Health and Human Services. April was Washington Metro Area Transit Authority. We will feature the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Reserve Bank as well as US Treasury and the Navy in June.

MBE2MBE SEARCH MODULE IN NMSDC CENTRAL.
Use this tool to develop and grow relationships with other MBEs; increase capacity through partnering and teaming; and identify MBEs for supply chain activities.
- Every certified firm has the ability to search for other MBEs using the MBE2MBE search module.
- Search by company name, keyword.
- Firms are automatically opted in upon certification/recertification. If you opt out of the MBE2MBE search module, you won’t be able to search for other MBEs, and your company won’t be visible in the search results of other MBEs.
- NMSDC reminds all MBEs that access to the search module is for partnering/teaming and capacity expansion, not for marketing your company’s products or services.
|
DON’T LET YOUR CERTIFICATION LAPSE.
