Local Author Spotlight: Caroline Leech | |
Caroline Leech is Scottish/Texan young adult author, podcaster, and coach. Her historical YA novels, WAIT FOR ME and IN ANOTHER TIME, are published by HarperCollins and both set in Scotland during World War Two.
Having learned so much about the publishing world over the last 14 years, especially from her SCBWI network at conferences and meetings, Caroline is now also a coach, speaker and podcaster (look for the podcast: Authors & Audiences). She is helping published and prospective authors develop their writing craft, understand the querying and publication processes, and develop key strategies for presenting themselves and promoting their books to audiences with confidence and professionalism.
On her podcast, Authors & Audiences, Caroline interviews a wide range of authors, booksellers, librarians and publishing professionals, and earlier this summer, Caroline presented two PAL workshops at the All Texas SCBWI Conference.
You can learn more on her website.

DrawThis Prompt!
The July and Aug prompt is: BACKPACK
Every month we develop a long list of potential #scbwiDrawThis prompts to choose one word or phrase that will challenge our illustrator members to dig deep and draw. Our goal is to find words rooted in a unique action, mood, point of view, or character theme. We also hope this practice will help you develop new art for your growing portfolios. Share your work with us! We want to see what you create!

Calling all novel writers. Join us for an 8-month virtual workshop where we dive deep into writing a children’s novel. Author George Jreije will guide collaborative groups through planning, researching, and writing novels for kids and teens with twice-monthly meetings from September to April (once a month in December and April), for a total of 14 classes.
The workshop is intended to give writers the structure and guidance for writing stories in novel format. With the collaborative model, participants will have opportunities to receive feedback and deepen their craft knowledge while helping other participants through the drafting process.
This workshop is intended for writers who want to write a novel for kids but are not sure where to start, have lots of ideas but are not sure which will work best, and/or have a work-in-progress and need some accountability and guidance.
Member pricing: $300
Non-Member pricing: $350
In addition, we are offering TWO full E&I scholarships. The scholarship application deadline is August 20. Click here for more information on this scholarship.
