"Never be afraid of loving

the Virgin Mary

too much.

You can never love her more

than Jesus did."

St. Maximilian Kolbe

Why Should We Honor Mary?

In the old Davidic Kingdom,

when the King was away or stubbornly ignoring

his subjects' requests,

the people turned to the queen,

who was the king’s mother.

They knew she would take their intentions

to the king to intercede for them.

What son can refuse his mother?

This relationship remains true with Mary and Jesus.

Jesus doesn't refuse to answer our prayers,

but imagine how much more earnestly He would answer them when

His mother brings them to His feet!

God deemed her worthy to be crowned the Queen of Heaven!!

She has power over both heaven (including the angels!!) and earth

but still humbles herself to care for us, for our every need.

St. Louis de Montfort described

the angels as being eager to carry out her requests.

He even said that St. Michael himself, the commander of God’s angels and

Prince of Heaven

is the most zealous at fulfilling Mary’s petitions.

If St. Michael the Archangel honors Mary

to such a high regard, then should we not as well?

8 WAYS TO HONOR MARY IN THE MONTH OF MAY

MAY,

MOTHER MARY

AND

THE ROSARY

Mary has been known to appear many times

throughout the world,

and quite often

she repeated one message:

"Pray the rosary."

in five Church-approved apparitions ... and heed her call.

ABOUT THE ROSARY

A Daily Prayer for the

Easter Season:

Regina Caeli

Imagine the joy of Mary on Easter morning!

Think of her recently broken heart,

now rejoicing beyond her own imagining at the sight of her beloved Son,

standing before her with eyes full of love.

The sacred face, now relieved of agony, greets his tender-hearted mother.

Saints and doctors of the Church believed

Mary was the first human to see the resurrected Christ.

It stands to reason He would seek his mother first, who suffered so deeply

during His Passion and death.

Pope St. John Paul II points out that Mary was

not with the other women at the tomb on the resurrection morning.

Could this be proof that she already knew her Son had risen?

Since at least the 12th century, the Church has recited

a special prayer to Mary during the Easter season:

The Regina Caeli that is Latin for “Queen of Heaven.”

During the Easter season, it is prayed daily at noon, instead of the Angelus prayer,

which is otherwise prayed daily throughout the year.

Queen of heaven, rejoice! Alleluia!

For he whom thou didst deserve to bear, Alleluia!

Has risen as he said, Alleluia!

Pray for us to God, Alleluia!

Rejoice and be glad, oh Virgin Mary, Alleluia!

Because our Lord is truly risen, Alleluia!

Let us pray.

Oh God, who by the resurrection of thy Son,

our Lord Jesus Christ, didst vouchsafe

to make glad the whole world,

Grant, we beseech Thee, that through the

intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, his mother,

We may attain the joys of eternal life.

Through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen.

QUESTIONS

ABOUT

THE ROSARY

  • Why is the Rosary such a powerful prayer?

  • Why is it important to pray the Rosary at all?

  • Where did the Rosary come from?

  • Is there a “right” way to pray it?

  • How is it possible to contemplate the Mystery

and recite the words of the Our Father

and Hail Mary at the same time?

  • What effect does this prayer have on my personal growth and spiritual life?

The Rosary is absolutely vital to the spiritual life

of every Catholic.

Now, some of us love to pray the Rosary.

But some of us struggle with it.

Some of us pray it every day.

Some of us pray it only occasionally.

SPECIAL PRAYERS

OUR LADY OF AMERICA

Beginning on September 26, 1956,

the Blessed Virgin Mary, began appearing to Sister Mary Ephrem (Mildred Neuzil)

under the name “Our Lady of America“.

Sister Mary Ephrem belonged to the

Convent of the Precious Blood Sisters at Rome City, Indiana.

On October 13, 1956, the Blessed Virgin Mary requested

that a statue of “Our Lady of America” be enshrined in the

National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.,

as a special place of pilgrimage

and a special safeguard for the United States of America.

This devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of America

enjoys complete canonical approval

through former Archbishop of Cincinnati, OH, the late Paul Francis Leibold.

Oh Immaculate Mother, Queen of our country,

open our hearts, our homes, and our land to the

coming of Jesus, your Divine Son.

With Him, reign over us, O heavenly Lady,

so pure and so bright with the radiance of

God’s light shining in and about you.

Be our leader against the powers of evil

set upon wresting the world of souls,

redeemed at such a great cost by the

sufferings of your Son and of yourself,

in union with Him, from that same Savior,

Who loves us with infinite charity.

We gather about you, O chaste and holy Mother,

Virgin Immaculate, Patroness of our beloved Land,

determined to fight under your banner of holy purity

against the wickedness that would make all the world

an abyss of evil, without God and without your loving maternal care.

We consecrate our hearts, our homes, our Land

to your Most Pure Heart, O great Queen,

that the kingdom of your Son, our Redeemer and our God,

may be firmly established in us.

We ask no special sign of you, sweet Mother,

for we believe in your great love for us,

and we place in you our entire confidence.

We promise to honor you by faith, love, and

the purity of our lives according to your desire.

Reign over us, then, O Virgin Immaculate,

with your Son Jesus Christ.

May His Divine Heart and your most chaste Heart

be ever enthroned and glorified among us.

Use us, your children of America,

as your instruments of peace among men and nations.

Work your miracle of grace in us,

so that we may be a glory to the Blessed Trinity,

Who created, redeemed, and sanctifies us.

May your valiant spouse, St. Joseph,

with the holy Angels and Saints,

assist you and us in “renewing the face of the earth.”

Then when our work is over, come,

Holy Immaculate Mother, and as our Victorious Queen,

lead us to the eternal kingdom,

where your Son reigns forever as King.

Amen

HUMOR HIGHLIGHT

EXCITING PALINDROMES

The topic for my ninth-grade class was palindromes,

words or sentences that are the same

read forward and backward.

I asked the question,

"What is the first thing Adam said to Eve?"

I was expecting the answer "Madam, I'm Adam,"

but one student had a better reply:

"Wow."

GOSPEL READING REFLECTION

For APRIL 30 2023

FOURTH SUNDAY IN EASTER

Gospel: John 10:1-10

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The Shepherd and Sheep Gate

  • Jesus used two images to describe his relationship with us: the shepherd and the gate. In a relationship with him, he leads us. But he puts conditions on that relationship, the responsibilities of discipleship.

  • Christ centers the Church in himself. He is its source. His very Spirit is its means. Without Christ, the Church fails to exist. With Christ, the faithful touch God's Kingdom, for he is the presence of the Kingdom to all.

  • How does Christ center the Church in himself? Through his Holy Spirit. The Spirit gathers all believers into Christ's body. It breathes its fruits and charisms into that Body. The Spirit empowers leadership to proclaims God's Word and act in the place of Christ at sacramental worship. It makes Christ present to the Church, especially at Eucharist. Through the Spirit, Christ reaches out, brings all people to himself, and presents them to the Father.

  • We are the flock of the Lord. But, like sheep, we can wander off in our own direction. And be at the mercy of thieves and false Messiahs. Jesus brings us back, like a good shepherd. And he gives us a true way to the Father. His very self!

  • The next time you see a sheep flock or a family dog, think of Jesus, the way he treats you, and what he offers you. Who knows? You might be tempted to see pet ownership as a reflection of Christ's care for you. And you might resolve to become a better pet master.

  • How do you remain in the Lord's flock? Trust in Jesus and his way. That trust has changed you and continues to change you.

ANSWER TO QUIZ

St. Matthias was the “13th Apostle,”

chosen by the Holy Spirit to

replace the traitor Judas Iscariot.

The Acts of the Apostles recounts that he was

one of the 72 disciples

who accompanied Our Lord on his mission.

He preached the Gospel near the

Caspian Sea as well as in modern-day Ethiopia.
