March 2026

Greetings!

I hope this message finds you well — and warm! If you were among the many who lost power during the recent storm, please know you've been on my mind. This winter on the Outer Cape has been fierce, and I'm so glad we're coming out the other side together. There's a lot of good news to share as we look towards the promise of spring.

We are thrilled to be back in our newly renovated Provincetown center, and even more excited to announce the launch of our updated HOW website! Our new site reflects our ongoing commitment to transparency and accessibility — with clear, detailed information about our programs, from support services for women living with chronic and serious health conditions on the Outer Cape, to health and wellness programs open to all women in our community. Please take a few minutes to explore it — we think you'll love what you find.

You'll also notice something special in this newsletter: our 2025 Community Impact Infographic. This snapshot tells the story of what we accomplished together last year — the rides provided, the women supported, the connections made. Stay tuned for future newsletters where we'll dive deeper into the numbers and the stories behind them.

As always, I want to say a heartfelt thank you for being here. The fact that you're reading this newsletter means you're part of the HOW community — and that matters more than I can say. Your engagement, your care, and your commitment help us continue making waves for women's health on the Outer Cape.

Here's to warmer days ahead, Gwynne

HOW Community News

HOW is Making Waves by educating, empowering, and supporting women on the Outer Cape!

Numbers can show our impact — but behind each one is a real woman on the Outer Cape who needed support and found it. That’s HOW in action. More than a program. More than a statistic. A community of people who believe every woman deserves to thrive.

HOW Community Spotlight

Meet Ginny Dutra!

We are incredibly lucky to have someone as compassionate and dedicated as Ginny Dutra in our corner. Since 2018, Ginny has been a steady, shining light as the facilitator of our Stay Strong Women’s Cancer Support Group, guiding the circle with deep wisdom and a calming presence. Ginny creates a safe, confidential space where every woman is truly seen, heard, and supported through her journey. Her long-standing commitment is a testament to her heart for this community..

If you or someone you know could benefit from this sisterhood, please reach out to Ginny at 508-648-1639 for more information. The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 10 am at the Truro Public Library.

The group is always ready to welcome new faces.

Client Services

Exciting news! We’re refining our service areas to better support our clients. Monica is now the primary point of contact for our Eastham residents, and Cathy will be looking after our clients in the other towns.

Thank you to both Monica and Cathy for all the support you provide to over 325 client members!

Animal Policy Change

Starting March 1, 2026 the only animals allowed in HOW’s Provincetown or Eastham office are ADA Service dogs. The Board of Directors made this decision to ensure a welcoming, safe environment for all clients, volunteers, and visitors at HOW’s newly renovated centers. We will miss having in-house pets and the occasional visits we have with client dogs.

Outside the Box, Inside the Community: Innovating Rural Health Care in Every Corner

There's something powerful happening in the spaces between doctor's offices and hospital waiting rooms — in community centers, kitchen tables, and parking lots. That's where Community Health Workers (CHWs) show up every day, quietly removing barriers and connecting people to the care and resources they need.

This spring, that work gets the spotlight it deserves.

This in-person conference is celebrating the vital role CHWs play in transforming health care delivery — especially in rural communities like ours on the Outer Cape.

At HOW, we know firsthand how much this matters. The women we serve depend on trusted community connections to navigate complex health systems, access benefits, and find their footing during some of the hardest moments of their lives. Events like this one strengthen the entire network that supports them and that is why HOW will be attending!

New: Outer Cape MS Support Group

Living with MS can feel isolating. This group was created to change that.

The new Outer Cape MS Support Group is a peer-led gathering created by and for local residents living with multiple sclerosis.

Here's why this group exists, in the words of Katherine — Provincetown resident and your facilitator:

"My name is Katherine and I am a widow living in Provincetown. I was lucky enough to be diagnosed in 1993 and lived with multiple sclerosis for decades without any real disability. I have found that becoming disabled by this disease is an isolating experience — and I want to connect and share with other people living with this vexing, unpredictable, and incurable condition."

We are proud to partner with HOW community members to host these National MS Society gatherings at our Eastham center. If you or someone you love is living with MS, you are welcome here.
