February 2026

Greetings!

We're Back in the Provincetown office!

We're Back — And We Can't Wait to See You! The renovation dust has settled, the paint has dried, and our doors at 34 Conwell Street are open again! We're excited to welcome you back to our refreshed space. Whether you're stopping by for an appointment, picking up resources, or just saying hello — we're here for you. When the weather warms we'll celebrate our renovated center with an open house in May. Until then feel free to stop by or join us for a cup of soup, community, and conversation at one of our Circles of Welcome in February, March or April.

34 Conwell Highlights

  • 2012 After nearly 20 years at 336 Commercial Street in an one-room, second-floor office space that Donald & Barbara Edwards provided rent-free, HOW purchased the office condo at 34 Conwell Street from Attorney Nancy Corriea.
  • 2014 Capital Campaign to pay-off mortgage and establish an endowment for HOW's sustainability.
  • 2016 Board retreat included a goal to "improve the physical experience/atmosphere of the space" resulting in a shift of staff seating to create a lounge area for women to gather with furnishings from donors and our friends at the Provincetown Methodist Thrift Store.
  • 2018 HOW paid off the mortgage after a successful capital campaign and subsequent pledges and bequests.
  • 2019-2024 As our client, volunteer, and donor community grew along with our team, we continued to rely on fabulous second-hand finds to make simple upgrades our space. Mini-splits were installed to improve both heat and a/c.
  • 2025 Renovation plans were drawn to include: an automated handicap accessible entry; a built-in coffee/tea station with sink in the lounge area; changing a window-less staff work room into a quiet space and library for small groups or individuals to meet and adding an exterior window; creating an open meeting space and work area in the back room, along with an updated staff "kitchenette" and a storage closet; new interior doors; installing an interior window to improve lighting and the sight-line to our entrance; new lighting; sound-proofing in ceilings and walls; and more! As with any project, we have a few more details to iron-out, pictures to hang, and an outdoor patio seating plan to begin once the winter passes.
  • 2026 The Board of Director's Building Committee, led by Julie Britt, navigated a number of challenges on this project and has delivered an updated space that takes the vision of HOW's 2016 Board "to improve the physical experience/atmosphere of the space" to a new level on par with the Ann Maguire Women's Wellness Center in Eastham. Last year Julie received HOW's Volunteer of the Year award and her service as our project manager continues, providing HOW the benefit of her many years running building and facilities projects at Bentley University. Thanks, Julie - and Board members Susan Kurtzman and Jayne Carvelli-Sheehan!

As we settle back into 34 Conwell Street, I want to recognize our HOW team members who worked from a one-room temporary office at The Provincetown Commons while continuing to meet our mission, not only for the 153 women who live in Provincetown, but by taking calls and coordinating services for the additional 187 women living in Truro, Wellfleet, and Eastham: Mary Berry, our Transportation & Finance Manager; Cathy McDonough, our Client Services Manager; Lisa Phillips, our Volunteer Coordinator; and our Americorps VISTA members -- Maddie Kahle and Gino Ruiz. And the many volunteers who supported HOW services out of the Provincetown office during this time!

With the completion of Provincetown renovations, 2026 marks a milestone for Helping Our Women and we have much to celebrate!

Stay tuned and stay warm,

Gwynne

P.S. we are closed Monday, February 16 for Presidents Day

New support group for Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

Led by Outer Cape residents with MS for anyone with MS!

“ My name is Katherine and I am a widow living in Provincetown. I was lucky enough to be diagnosed in 1993 and lived with multiple sclerosis for decades without any real disability. I have found that becoming disabled by this disease is an isolating experience and I want to connect and share with other people living with this vexing, unpredictable and incurable condition.”

We are proud to work with HOW community members to support their interest in hosting the National MS Society gatherings at our Eastham center. This group provides a welcoming space for people living with MS to connect, share, and support each other.

Location: HOW Eastham & Virtual

First Wednesday each month at 6 PM -- in-person and virtual participation options.
