July 2025

Greetings, Gwynne!

Summer is in full swing here on the Cape and the roads from Provincetown to Eastham are often congested which means the travel time to healthcare appointments is sometimes twice as long as the same ride during the off-season. Even so, in May and June we have experienced the highest level of ride requests in our 33 year history so we are grateful to the volunteers who arrive for the summer season and make time to give rides to Wellfleet, Orleans, or Hyannis -- joining the reliable year-round volunteer drivers to provide not only a ride, but social connection and companionship.

I offer all of this as a reminder: the next time you're stuck in the Cape's summer traffic, just know one of those cars may be a HOW volunteer driving one of the 325 women we serve to and from a medical appointment.

We have so much to share with you in this update, so read on about the launch of HOW's Peer Wellness Coaching program, health & wellness program updates, and Drag Brunch tickets and a fall fundraiser save-the-date!

As I said at the Annual Gathering, the work of Helping Our Women is truly love in action...and your time and attention to this email message is just one point of action and purpose that is woven into this net of support, compassion, and connection that we call HOW. Thank you for your engagement! -Gwynne

HOW Community News

This month we begin offering free, confidential wellness coaching for all HOW client members and volunteers!

Peer Wellness Coaching (PWC) is a supportive, one-on-one conversation where a woman's needs, goals, and values come first. The first cohort of volunteer coaches began training in January and completed the 20-hour training program in May so they are ready to go!

Whether a woman is managing a health condition, facing a life transition, or simply seeking more balance in her life, coaching offers a space to:

  • feel heard and understood;
  • set personal goals and around health and well-being;
  • receive encouragement and accountaiblity; and
  • enjoy the social connection of a focused conversation supporting each woman's unique concerns.

Coaching is not therapy and does not provide medical advice.

We are launching this pilot phase with coaching appointments on Tuesdays 1-5pm and Thursdays 10am-2pm in our Eastham office while renovations continue in our Provincetown center.

Email monica@helpingourwomen.org to schedule a coaching appointment or to learn more.
