Since hearing about the SCOTUS leak, I have bounced around all of the stages of grief.

Denial: I’m going to make beds and watch Yellowstone and harken back to the good old days of five minutes ago when I didn’t know this information.

Anger: In a democracy, how can an unelected religious minority make life-altering decisions for a majority of Americans who support the freedom to choose? Don’t we have separation of church and state? How can investigating the leak be more important than investigating Clarence Thomas’ participation in a plot to overthrow the US government???

Bargaining: The decision is not final. Maybe Congress will codify Roe into law immediately. We’ll expand the court.

Depression: My children will grow up with fewer rights than I have. I have let them down. Why me? Why now? Why can’t I just make beds and watch Yellowstone?

Acceptance: This is the world we have been living in for more than five years now. While we’re upset, we are not really shocked. We knew this was coming. 

I am a multi-hyphenate Czar for Field Team 6. I work on the newsletter, I oversee Mobilize and Zoom and I run the postcarding program. I also run a workshop for activists who are feeling paralyzed with despair. 

Eckhart Tolle says to accept each moment as if you’ve chosen it. EVEN THIS ONE. Hard to swallow? I know. It’s not passive, though. When you do it, you stop suffering and provide yourself with a solid place from which to act.

Author and lawyer Teri Kanefield says: “As long as we have a democracy, there will be forces trying to undermine the democracy. Once you accept this painful truth, you stop feeling shocked and exhausted each time the right-wing begins attacking democratic processes.” 

Feel all of the feelings, land on acceptance and come back. Because there is always something we can do. The resistance is resourceful and we’re not going anywhere. And you are not alone. There are millions of us doing this work, so it’s not up to you to save democracy. All you have to do is the little bit you can do because each of us doing the little bit we can do adds up to a whole hell of a lot. If a sustaining donation is all you have in you right now, do that and know you are doing something.  

Find what you like and are good at. Do you like phone banking, texting, postcarding, social media, or in-person drives? Sign up for an event below! Or maybe you’re a writer, or great with research or spreadsheets. Can you do back end work for an organization – like Field Team 6 – that’s doing work that matters to you? HERE’s our volunteer link! Then guess what? If you’re doing the work, you get to stop watching the news and live your life, love your family and friends and cultivate joy. Don’t let fascists steal your joy. These days, joy itself is an act of defiance.

KEY PARTNER IN KEYSTONE STATE: TURN PA BLUE!
Last week Field Team 6 partnered with our incredibly effective friends at Turn PA Blue to do a joint text bank to women in Pennsylvania – women who are eligible voters and likely Democrats. Our combined volunteers were so hardcore, they texted over 250,000 women in less than two days! Amazing work!!
 
Now is the time to turn people’s outrage into action – and mint new Democrats who can elect Democratic majorities to the Senate, the House, governors’ mansions, and statehouses in November!
 
And making sure women are registered to vote, and that they can vote safely from home, is always a super-effective way to make a difference. Women tend to vote more than men, and tend to register as Democrats at higher rates too.

Get ready to BYOP – Bring Your Own Phone (*plan)! We're bootcamping this very afternoon… Thursday, May 5 at 4p PT. We’ll train you how to text from your computer, using your data plan (or a free Google Voice number). Once trained, you can do this on your own time, whenever you like!

We'll be texting and registering new Democrats in all 9 swing states (!!) — AZ, CA, FL, GA, NC, NV, PA, TX, and WI. Let's get Democrats elected up and down the ballot!

SOCIAL MEDIA STORMS
Hi Social Stormers! We’re continuing to make lots of big, blue noise on Twitter – last week we sent out almost 10,000 tweets and generated over 53 million impressions! That’s 13 weeks in a row that over 50 million pairs of eyeballs have seen our tweets! Let’s continue to be loud and blue all the way up to the Midterms.

We recently split our storm training sessions into two: one for those who are old hands at the social storming game and another for those new to the scene. It's working well and we're sticking with it. Here's what's on tap this week:

Our first few “How to Partner with Field Team 6" meetings were fantastic and we’re even more fired up for the next one after the SCOTUS shenanigans this week. Now more than ever we need to come together and fight the good fight.

When is it? Wednesday, May 11 at 5p PT/8p ET and you can sign up for it right HERE! (We'll be doing these every two weeks for the foreseeable future, so be sure to keep an eye out for future meetings if you can't make this one.)

Forging new Resistance partnerships with the likes of Turn PA Blue, Activate 22, New Mexico's Blue CD2, Westside Democratic HQ (and so many more that don't rhyme!) is how we scale up. It's how we register even more new Democrats, win the November midterms, and save democracy!

We've built a super-sexy infrastructure, acquired mountains of data, and developed a user-friendly partnership system, so that we can help your organization to run in-person voter drives, textbank, phonebank, postcard, and social media storm.

WISCONSIN TEXT BANK
With this stacked court, we knew it was coming. But the leaked Supreme Court ruling to overturn Roe was still shocking in its brutality. So let's channel that fear and anger into something productive.

In our Wisconsin database, we have almost 250,000 women who are unregistered, eligible to vote, and likely Democrats. If we register even a fraction of them, we can help re-elect Governor Tony Evers and cement a Dem majority in the US Senate and House. If we do that, there are ways to stop the GOP from taking away a woman's right to make decisions about her own body – from passing federal legislation to expanding the number of justices.

One of Field Team 6's coolest tools is our Voter Drive in a Box – the digital version of everything you need to hold your own voter drive in a swing state: training videos, manuals, cheat sheets, etc.

Now we're introducing the physical version. Our Voter Drive in a Box Box is not just metaphorical... it’s an actual box filled with everything a first-time drive leader needs to host their own voter drive: clipboards, pens, forms, stickers, and more – for up to 8 volunteers!

To achieve our goal of mailing one of these state-specific goodie boxes—for free!—to every volunteer who signs up to lead their first voter drive, we're looking for people to Adopt-a-Box. It'll cost us about $60 to buy, stock and ship each box, but we think the dividends it will pay in the voter registration ground game will be priceless. Won't you adopt a box today?
