August 25, 2025

Greetings Fellow Scots,

Thank you parents and families for supporting us through our first full week of school. We are off to a great start to the school year!

Last week we received our TEA accountability ratings for the 2024-2025 school year. HPHS scored a 96 out of 100 and earned six out of seven possible academic distinctions. We are proud of the work of our students and staff and will continue to strive for excellence and school improvement this year.

Last week our students acknowledged and signed the HPHS Honor Code Statement. At HPHS, all Scots are committed to demonstrating academic integrity every day.

So far, students are doing a great job at school following the new cell phone rules. Students are using their Yondr Pouches and are not using their cell phones on school property during the school day. Please help our students remember that they should not use laptops or any other devices as personal communications devices at school. Laptops should only be used at school and in class as directed by teachers for instructional purposes. Thank you for reminding your students of that expectation.

Thanks and Go Scots!

HAPPY LABOR DAY

Just a friendly reminder that all HPISD campuses will be closed on Monday, September 1, in recognition of the Labor Day Holiday. School will resume on Tuesday, September 2.

PARKING REMINDERS

Now that the school year has started, we want to review and impress the importance of our parking rules and expectations.

Unfortunately, when students who park on HPISD property without administrative permission, they cause frustration and tardiness for those whose spaces they have taken. This, in turn, makes our students who are following the rules late for class thereby missing instructional time.

It also creates a problem for visitors, guests and volunteers who are unable to find parking when they arrive.

We are asking for parents and students to remember that if they have not been assigned a space by HP administration, they should not be parking at HPHS or HPISD; and for those who have been assigned a space, they should only be parking in their assigned spot if they arrive anytime between 6:00 am- 3:35 pm.

Parking Reminders:

  • Sophomores and freshmen are not issued spaces, and they are not allowed to park in HPHS/ HPISD parking spaces and designated areas.
  • Seniors and juniors who have been issued a space by HP Admin, may only park in the space assigned to them by HP administration.
  • Students (of any grade level) who have not been assigned a space by HPHS administration, may not park on any HPHS/ HPISD property during the school day.
  • School Parking is enforced 6:00 am- 3:30 pm.

Violations:

  • Any student parking in any space or area that has not been assigned to them by HPHS administration will be towed at owner’s expense on the second violation.
  • Continuous parking violations could result in disciplinary action taken by the student’s assistant principal.
  • Students with driving violations (speeding, wrong way, etc.) will be subject to disciplinary consequences taken by the student’s assistant principal.
  • Visitor/ volunteer parking is reserved and designated for visitors and volunteers only; it is not for student use.
  • Handicapped spaces (garage and street) are reserved for those issued a state handicapped sticker/ placard/ license plate. These parking violations are subject for immediate tow at owner’s expense.

*HPHS/ HPISD parking spaces and designated areas includes: Parking Garage, Visitor/Volunteer, H-Lots, and all street parking along the high school, sports fields, along with all street parking on Douglas, Druid, Emerson Glenwick, Grassmere, Lovers Lane, Westchester; this also includes spaces and areas designated for specific groups and locations, including, but not limited to the Administration Building, Annex, Athletics, Clements, Education Foundation, Facilities, Highlander Stadium, Indoor facility, Scot Shoop, and Seay Tennis Center.

Please visit our Parking Information page for more information, including how to request a parking space.

The Scots showcased teamwork, grit, and skill throughout the weekend, earning recognition for four exceptional players. Brooklyn Bailey and Sarah Floyd were named to the All-Tournament Team, while Anna Lee took home Tournament Setter, and Gigi Whann was awarded Tournament Defensive Player. Way to go, Scots!

The Highland Park Volleyball program is off to a great start this season. Players from all levels, Varsity, JV1, JV2, and Freshman, came together for an All-Program Retreat to build team spirit and prepare for the season ahead.

This past Tuesday, all pre-Varsity teams competed against Coppell, and each team showed tremendous effort on the court.

JV1 worked hard together as they finished strong in the third set to earn a well-deserved win.

JV2 played a close match and came out on top with a 2-1 victory. Emily Thornton led the team with 7 kills and was voted Player of the Game by her teammates.

For the Freshman team, according to Coach Standridge, “The girls did a great job taking care of this (Coppell) team, as they were supposed to do.”

Come support all our teams this Tuesday, August 26, at home as they take on Rockwall. Let’s cheer them on as they continue their season.
