Jammin'

Westerlys' entire student body rocked the

amphitheater during their all school
dance at lunchtime on Wednesday.  DJ Max Flohr (8th grade Vice-President) led the excitement with his electrifying beats as he spun his turntables sending vibrations throughout the campus.  From the art room to the playground to the arts village was painted with dancers of all shapes and sizes.

Student Council had a goal of bringing all the students together for some lunch time excitement, and they did.  Treasurer Talia Cassel rallied the troops and lead some of her Middle School counterparts into a dancing frenzy amongst a group of 1st and 3rd graders.  Ms. Takii took charge of the dance floor as students flocked to be part of her dance circle.

Although the school year is coming to an end, the campus has certainly not stopped movin' and groovin'.

Thank you Westerly Student Council.

Hunger Games Mania!

Twenty passionate middle school students meet every Thursday afternoon as part of the Science Fiction Book Club. This trimester they are reading and discussing "The Hunger Games," a wildly popular book by Suzanne Collins that was recently released as a film.  In addition to discussions about the characters and themes of the novel, the students have participated in fun activities that allow them to enjoy the novel with their classmates.  Students have reenacted the District 12 reaping - calculating the number of times their name was entered and the odds of their name being drawn, and calling upon their theatrical skills to re-create the scene.

Next, students "impressed the judges" with their skills in areas such as: camouflage, edible plants, archery, building a shelter, and knot typing.  Currently, the students are creating mock Facebook pages for their favorite characters, filling out the bio and choosing friends as the character would.  Throughout the Games, they will be adding status updates in the character's voice.

"May the odds be ever in your favor!"
