We're halfway through Read-A-Thon! Hopefully you're managing to keep track of your kids' minutes in very organized ways. We talk a lot about the fundraising aspect of Read-A-Thon (it's our second-largest fundraiser of the year!), but all prizes are based on reading minutes and participation.

Along with your support through Read-A-Thon, we are looking for lots of help over the next month. Below, you'll find links to sign-ups for Conference Night teacher snacks and all things Pumpkin Chuck. Room Parents will also be reaching out with sign-ups for fall class parties.

Thanks in advance for helping to support our school!

Mornings in the Garden

The next Morning in the Garden will be Tuesday from 7:45-8:15am. Stop by the school garden after drop-off to enjoy coffee and treats from Dovetail Bakery and connect with fellow HPS parents and caregivers.

The turnout for the first two was great, and the weather looks like it's going to cooperate again! Stay for five minutes or the whole half hour. Everyone is welcome!

PTO Meeting

The next PTO meeting is Wednesday from 6-7pm in the library. Enter through the doors by the sports court (where CRC pickup is) and go up the half flight of steps. The library is the first room on the left.

As always, pizza and childcare for school-age children will be provided. Sign up here, so we make sure to have enough pizza!

We'll give Read-A-Thon and budget updates and discuss Pumpkin Chuck plans. If you have something you'd like added to the agenda, please let us know!

Everyone is welcome!

Just bring your mat and a water bottle!

Kindergarten Parent Social

Kindergarten parents have their social on Saturday night. Enjoy roasting marshmallows and playing camp games while meeting your child's classmates' parents!

Help Wanted

Feed the Birds

Winter is coming and HPS wants to feed the birds! We are looking for bird feeders to place in our garden. If anyone has one they no longer need, we would love to take it off your hands.

We are also looking for bird seed and suet. If you need suggestions, black-oil sunflower seeds are a great choice for overwintering birds, and woodpeckers love high fat content suet.

The birds and students (and let's be honest, the squirrels) thank you!

If you have a donation, please contact Mr. Seevers at seeverp@cpsboe.k12.oh.us.

Garden Work Day

The next HPS Garden Work Day will be Sunday, October 18 from 10am to 2pm. Volunteers will be weeding and prepping the garden for winter and planting bulbs for spring!

Come for as little or long as you are able, and bring gloves and gardening tools if you have them. Children are always welcome and encouraged to join!

Conference Night Snacks

Parent Teacher Conferences are next week! We want to show our appreciation for the long day our teachers put in to meet with parents after their regular work day.

We are still looking for contributions of snacks, treats and drinks to stock the staff lounge to keep our teachers energized through the evening. We also need volunteers to help collect the donated items during school drop-off.

Read-A-Thon is (Still) On!

We've loved seeing the pictures of where and what your kids are reading. Keep sending them to fundraising@hydeparkschoolpto.org to be featured on our social media channels!

Don't forget to remind your kids to keep recording their reading minutes. Prizes are awarded for class participation and minutes read.

Pledges can be made online here. Links to paper pledge forms and reading logs are here.

Field Trips

The largest part of the PTO budget is funding all field trips for our students, and fall field trips are in full force this month. This week, our kindergartners went to Gorman Farm, and our second graders went to Green Acres.

Yoga in the Garden

On Friday, Ms. Forman's kindergarteners, Ms. Boada's first graders, and Ms. Cline's unit headed to the garden for some outdoor yoga.

We love to see our teachers and students enjoying our unique spaces!

Second Grade Parent Social

The Second Grade Parent Social was Saturday night. Pictures have not yet made it to your PTO Secretary, but we assume a great time was had by all.

Suzuki Strings at the Hyde Park Farmers Market

HPS Suzuki Strings will perform at the Hyde Park Farmers Market today! Young musicians from CCM Prep will be sharing music throughout the morning at Hyde Park Square.

Stop by their table to try a violin, viola, or cello and learn more about the CCM Prep Suzuki Strings program. It’s a fun opportunity for children and families to get a hands-on introduction to the instruments and meet the teachers.
