Hyde Park School Library End of Year!

The HPS Library will stop checking out new books this coming Monday, May 15, in preparation for the end of the school year. Parents can help us wrap up the year by sending in all HPS Library books you have in your home! You can identify books that belong to the HPS Library by the white stickers with the school logo on the spines of the books. Parents and children can drop books in the blue bin just inside the door of the library at any time, or send books via teachers or the office. Help us get our shelves filled again so we can do summer inventory and prepare for next year!

HPS Field Day 2017- May 19th

Please return the paper permission slip so your child can participate. If you can donate your time to help us staff the event, or a requested item (cooler, tents, etc.), please return that portion of the flyer as well.

You can sign up to volunteer all day, or half day.    

K-2nd Grade Volunteers Needed 7:45-12:30
3rd-6th Grade Volunteers Needed 10:00-3:00p.m.

End Of Year Potluck Picnic 
Please join us in celebrating the end of the 2016-17 school year!! 

When: Thursday, May 25th from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Where: Ault Park near the playgrounds on Observatory and Heekin Avenue

PTO will provide hotdogs, water, and lemonade. Each student will also receive a Kona Ice from the Kona Ice truck! 

Please bring an item as suggested for your grade, along with a blanket or lawn chairs:

Kindergarten:  Salad (pasta, potato, garden)
1st Grade:       Veggies and Dip
2nd Grade:      Paper Plates
3rd Grade:       Fruit
4th Grade:       Chips
5th Grade:       Plasticware (forks/spoons)
6th Grade:       Dessert
Restaurant  Night Roundup

Every school year the PTO fills the calendar with a variety of “Restaurant Nights” to build community and raise funds for the school. Before our feet hit the street seeking restaurants to participate, we thought we’d offer up the opportunity to any of our Hyde Park School parents first. We are fortunate enough to have many HPS parents who own/manage restaurants, many of which have participated in these events in the past.

We’ll begin assembling the calendar for the 2017-18 school year soon, so please reach out if you are interested in hosting a Restaurant Night. Please contact Beth McPeek ( beth1abell@aol.com) for details.

Hyde Park School teacher approved 2017-18 supply kits are available for sale through Bright School Kitz. Save time during the back-to-school rush and pre-order your child's supplies now! Lists have been generated by our teachers and provided to Bright School Kitz.

Our BSK volunteer has worked hard to get the lowest prices, passing on the value to our parents. This is a service PTO is proud to present to our HPS community.

Our winning classroom for the most collected BoxTops is 2nd Grade, Nicole Roberts!!!

Thank you to everyone who participated this year. These little pieces of cardboard lead to big money for our school. Take out your scissors and keep cutting as we'll begin collecting at the beginning of next school year!  
Hyde Park School athletics has some open spots on our inaugural T-ball team for kindergartners and first graders.

The season will feature practices 1 night per week and games on the weekends. Each child will also receive a uniform.

2 017-18 Basketball Coordinator Needed 

We Can't Do It Without You!

The Hyde Park School Athletics Department needs a volunteer to fill the open Basketball Coordinator position for the 2017-18 school year. You will be trained on how to accomplish the responsibilities of the role and will have full support from the Athletic Director.

 This position is perfect for a parent who wants to get involved but isn’t keen on being a coach. It’s work that can be done from a desk or in the evenings when schedules allow. Our basketball program already has pre-stablished systems in place, all we need is you!!

Below, are the three nominees on the ballot for the LSDMC Representative. Voting will take place Monday, May 15th 8:15 a.m. in Room 139 (Music Room).

LSDMC Representative: 

Commit to attend all, to the extent practicable, of the LSDMC meetings (one meeting per month). Must have a child enrolled at HPS. Can commit to a two year term ending June 2019.

LSDMC Nominees: 

Peter Riddle We currently have a graduating 6th grader at HPS (Abigail Riddle), as well as a 3rd grader (Jackson Riddle). Both of them attended Kilgour through 2nd grade, where I have been on the PTA board since the 2011-2012 school year. In our four years at HPS, we have been impressed with its strong community and dedication displayed by parents, students, faculty, and staff. With the school's growth and planned solutions to address space issues, I feel that I can serve the LSDMC by providing valuable input in setting goals and plans for these solutions as well as assessing progress in implementation.

Jamie Castle- I grew up in Greenhills, Ohio and went to Roger Bacon High School.  I was a Miami University graduate and have a Secondary Education major in Communications with a minor in Theater and went back to Roger Bacon to teach English and Theater.  Since having children I have been a stay at home mom with a sewing business on the side.  My husband grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from UC.  He is the CFO at Boca Restaurant Group.  Our children are Luciana (Lucy) who just turned nine and my son Finnegan who will soon be seven.  Being at HPS has been a very easy transition for my children and they are very happy here with their new friends and all of the wonderful resources that HPS has to offer.

Tracy MurnahanI am a mother to Elliot and Oliver Murnahan Stegman who are both first graders at HPS.  I have been so pleased in the leadership and the involvement from the staff and parents of HPS and love that the boys can be part of a neighborhood school.   When I am not in my favorite role of ‘Mama’, I am a Senior Marketing Director for a financial firm and received my MBA from Xavier University.  I feel that my marketing and business leadership experience could benefit the LSDMC.  And with 2 boys just starting out at HPS, I  want to do what I can to help HPS reach its full potential.
