Join us this Wednesday February 3 at 7:30 pm with your favorite beverage in hand for a Virtual Spring Celebration Happy Hour Info Meeting. This month's PTO meeting will center around HPS Spring Celebration 2021 and the volunteer opportunities available to support the event. The Spring Celebration will take place virtually again this year, and with a year's experience of the virtual style under our belts, it promises to be a fun way to raise a lot of money for our school! As always, our volunteers are the driving force, and there are opportunities available to suit the many talents, interests, and time commitments of our HPS community. CPS is Hiring Substitute Teachers, Special Needs Professionals, Substitute Paraprofessionals, & Nap Aids
CPS is hiring substitute teachers, special needs professionals, substitute paraprofessionals, and nap aids to help facilitate the return to in-person school. You can scan the QR code below or use this link to register, apply, and learn additional information. CPS is hosting Virtual Walk-In Wednesday Open Interviews for these positions every Wednesday from 1-2:30 pm through February 24. The basic requirements for substitute teachers and paraprofessional substitutes are respectively listed in the blue boxes on the left and right sides of the graphic. HPS Parent Lee Sellinger (leesellinger@gmail.com) is gathering further details about these positions and is available to answer questions about the process; but please note, she does not work for CPS and is offering her help not to provide official CPS information but just because she's that good of a person!

Class Composite Pictures Are In the Works! Please Submit Your Pics by TOMORROW, February 1st.
Remember to submit your student's picture by TOMORROW, February 1, for the class composite pictures! This close-up/head-and-shoulders pic should be as high resolution as possible but need not--and is not expected to be--professional. Cell phone pics will be the norm. You can send the pic to your Room Parent or upload a picture labeled with your child's name to this google doc link using the folder of your child's homeroom teacher. This way, we can memorialize the year and all of our students who persevered. If you are unable to submit a picture but would like your child included, HPS staff will take a picture of your child at HPS when he/she returns to in-person school.

City Survey to Improve Traffic Safety at HPS
The Department of Transportation and Engineering (DOTE) has received several complaints about eastbound vehicles on Observatory Ave not yielding to pedestrians in the crosswalk when turning left (north) onto Edwards Rd. DOTE is considering modifying the traffic signal to include a “left turn on green arrow only” for eastbound vehicles turning left (north) on Edwards.
Adding a “left turn on green arrow only” will eliminate the conflict between pedestrians crossing Edwards in the north crosswalk and vehicles turning left on Edwards. When pedestrians have a “walk” signal for the north crosswalk, eastbound vehicles on Observatory will not be allowed to turn left on Edwards.
Adding this “left turn on green arrow only” will increase wait times for all users at the intersection. Vehicles traveling through the intersection will have a longer red light, vehicles turning north onto Edwards will have a longer wait, and pedestrians will have a longer wait for the “walk” signal. This change will also require the loss of a few parking spots on all legs of the intersection.
Please use the feedback form to let the City know if you prefer the existing traffic signal timing, or the addition of the “left turn on green arrow only.”
