Walk to School Day - October 2, 2019
International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation – each October. Today, thousands of schools across America – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico – participate every October.
Staff, students and parents are encouraged to make signs (ie. - "Our students walk this route, please drive carefully!" or "Keep our kids safe - SLOW DOWN!") and line Edwards Rd. and Observatory Rd. around 7:30am
For a social media presence, we will be using the #visionzeroCPS  - please make sure to include the hashtag on your media posts!!

From  October 4th through the 22nd , the PTO will be sponsoring the HPS Read-a-thon. The previous Read-a-thons have been a huge hit, and we know none of it is possible without the help of parents. On  October 4 th , we will be sending home a packet with your child, which consists of a letter of explanation, a reading log to keep track of minutes read, a pledge form to gather monetary pledges from friends and family for reaching their goal, and a halfway to goal form.
Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and effort, which makes the Read-a-thon so successful!

Sports Spotlight
Eagle of the Week- Kaitlyn Belcuore
This week we recognize Kaitlyn Belcuore. Kaitlyn embodies what it means to be a HPS Eagle. She has been determined over the last two seasons to improve her skills, her upbeat attitude is contagious, she always has a smile on her face, she encourages her teammates and is an example of good sportsmanship. She comes to practice every week excited to learn! She has a positive attitude on and off the court. She works hard in the classroom, is compassionate to others and is a leader. Her teacher, Mrs. Casteel describes Kaitlyn as a true leader in the sixth grade! She is able to do the right thing in all circumstances and chooses to respect self, others and property at HPS. She is kind, hard-working and helpful. It is an understatement to say that we appreciate her positive attributes and her beautiful smile every day! Great job Kaitlyn!!!

Simply email  hps.athletics@outlook.com  by Thursday afternoon with your Eagle of the Week submissions.
