May Is Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month: Cincinnati Has A Full Calendar of Events in Celebration!
May is Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, a time to celebrate Asians and Pacific Islanders in the U.S. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869, as the majority of workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.

Businesses and organizations across Greater Cincinnati are hosting events in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month. Nearly all events are free and many are family friendly, including the Asian Food Fest happening today (May 8) on Court Street, Downtown. Click here for a full calendar of events in May celebrating AAPI Heritage Month.

Give Us The Ole' Razzle Dazzle at the 2022 HPS Talent Show: Submission Deadline is TOMORROW, May 9!
You may have been wondering, "Will there be a Talent Show this year?" Of course!! Here’s what it will look like:
Format: Virtual
Submission Deadline: May 9
Show Premiere: May 12
How to Participate: Students will submit a video of their act to Mr. Messerly's Google Drive. Click on this link when you are ready to upload:

What Mr. Messerly needs in your video:
1. Your performer should announce their name and the title of the piece they are
performing before beginning.
2. Or if there is no title a brief description of what they’re doing. Your child's act can be anything he or she is proud of! They could hold up a picture they made, show off a unique Lego structure they've created, perform music, dance, poetry, juggling Taekwondo, etc. All acts should be no longer than two minutes, but shorter is fine!

Depending on how many acts submit, Mr. Messerly will break the show up into smaller grade bands. For example, we typically have two shows: one with K-2 and the other with 3-6. The show will debut on the Happy Hyde Park YouTube Channel on May 12, but will then remain up for several days. If you have questions send Mr. Messerly an email at messerm@cpsboe.k12.oh.us.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you shine!

Silverton Color Fun Run/Walk Invites Hyde Park School
If you're looking for a fun family activity for a great community cause, the First Annual Silverton Color Fun Run/Walk is happening on May 21 at 2pm at Ficke Park. The race includes three options:

  • 2:00pm: Mile Color Fun Run/Walk (ages 13 or younger): three laps around Ficke Park!
  • 3:00pm: 5K Color Fun Run/Walk (all ages): three larger laps which will take you out into the Silverton community, including a visit to the local fire station!
  • 3:00pm: 5K Color Fun Run/Walk Relay team: sign up with two of your friends with each of you completing one of the three laps of our race route!

All proceeds will go back to supporting essential needs at Silverton Elementary (the school many of us know from our home Basketball games) with the focus for this year's run being on ensuring Silverton students have necessary tutoring needs for next school year and making needed facilities upgrades. Any remaining funds will be spent to support student learning needs and teacher wellness.

All those who enter will receive a t-shirt which will be covered in colored chalk by the end of the event! Sign up via the link now!

Also join Silverton for the accompanying free festivities which will include music, carnival games, face painting, and more! NOTE: If you are unable to attend, but want to support the school, donations of any amount are also welcome on the site! This event is co-sponsored by Silverton Elementary, the Village of Silverton, and High Grain Brewery & Kitchen -- an after party for volunteers and CPS staff will occur afterwards at High Grain!
