Restaurant Night Helper
Interested in helping out with an easy HPS fundraiser? Each month, the PTO tries to find one generous restaurant nearby that is willing to give a percentage of the proceeds back to HPS. This is a great way to fundraise, as well as gather informally with fellow HPS families! This job is not very extensive (the Fundraising Chair already has a short list of potential restaurants), but it still entails communicating with the chosen restaurants, making flyers to advertise, etc. Email Beth McPeek at

Box Tops are Worth your Time!
Did you know that Box Tops raise over $1000 for HPS each year? These may seem like pesky little cardboard pieces and one “extra thing to do”, but they truly add up! So, please keep collecting; the PTO is super appreciative! Each teacher has a box in their room where students can place their collection. Thank you!

Clay Creations
**ALL AGES - K-6
th combined class
This program is designed to cover the three fundamental building processes in clay: pinching, coils, and slab, as well as the glazing process. Each week students will concentrate on making an object using each of those techniques. The students will learn to engineer, construct, and problem solve using clay to make fun projects to keep!
K-6 Tuesdays 2:15-3:15pm

This class uses music to inspire movement, creativity and imagination, as well as fun with fitness and physical activity!

Thank You for a Successful Bake Sale!
The members of Navigators chapter 137 would like to thank the Hyde Park School community for their incredible generosity in supporting our bake sale. We were able to raise
$489.72
, all of which will be donated to help support communities affected by flooding. Half of the money will be donated to the Houston Food Bank, which is helping Harvey recovery by supplying families with food, water, and other goods (
http://www.houstonfoodbank.org/
). The other half of the money will be donated to support recovery from Hurricane Irma. We had so many generous donations, from parents, staff, and even kids. We especially want to thank the amazing kids, who, when hearing where the money was going, pulled out their own extra dollars to contribute. What a fantastic community we have at HPS!

Even though we are on the third floor and are growing up, we still need some TLC. We love learning about cultural traditions and have a commitment to community service. We prefer healthy, nut-free snacks, but do enjoy a treat every once in a while. Our favorite holidays are Day of the Dead and Valentine's Day. A Note from Mrs. Hughes About Virtual Goggles & a Request for Your Old Phone!

Parents, we are so excited to be bringing the world of virtual reality to our students this year!!! Virtual Reality is an exciting technology that allows us to take students on amazing adventures while enhancing their understanding of the concepts being taught in the classroom. Imagine being able to travel inside a cell to see the inner workings, or visit the Andes Mountains to see first hand the effects of erosion, or go diving deep into the Pacific Ocean to learn about how whales migrate & feed. There are so many exciting adventures waiting for our students in the world of virtual reality. The devices we will be utilizing are made by Mattell and they are specifically designed for children. Remember those old View-Master toys we had as kids? Well, they've had a major upgrade!!! If you'd like to learn more, please visit their website & learn all about this amazing product.
All we need to make this dream a reality for our kids now is your old smartphones!
If you have any old smartphones lying around collecting dust, we can use them!!!

- If you would like to donate a phone, please check the list of compatible phones to see if your phone is listed, if not, don't worry, it may still work. We can give it a try & return it if it doesn't fit.
- The phone does not need to be connected to a cell phone service, we will connect to the apps using the CPS wifi services.
- Next, we need phones to be wiped clean of all personal information. Please delete photos, contacts, apps, etc. You can do this easily by returning the phone to factory settings.
- Finally, please remember to include the charger so we can keep phones charged for students use.

The Tower Gardens are Back!
