The 5th Annual HPS Read-a-Thon Fundraiser is Underway

The month of October is filled with book-fueled fun. THIS WEDNESDAY, October 18, plan to turn in your “ONE WEEK LEFT” form (found in your Read-a-Thon folder)! By sending that back in your child’s Tuesday Folder, your child has a chance to win a Joseph-Beth Book Fair gift card!
Students had a great time at the Read-a-Thon kick-off rally outside on Friday afternoon! More details about our Read-a-Thon can be found in your student's colored welcome folder and on our www.hpspto.org website. For further information on prizes, the author visit, and how to pledge your support for your young reader, visit http://conta.cc/2z0F82d
The Joseph-Beth Book Fair starts tomorrow, October 16! During the school day, your child will have an opportunity to enjoy the Book Fair with his/her classmates: they will create a book wish list and peruse a wide selection of books to buy! You can send money with your child OR come and check out the Book Fair with your child! Family shopping hours in the gym include Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday from 7:15 to 7:45am, as well as Wednesday and Thursday from 2:15-6:15pm.
Restaurant Day/Night at Bronte Bistro is THIS WEEK!

On Wednesday AND Thursday, October 18 & 19, Bronte Bistro will donate 20% of sales (excluding alcohol) to the HPS PTO. A flyer will come home in the Tuesday Folder on October 17; present that flyer to the restaurant when you go. Bronte Bistro is right inside Joseph-Beth Booksellers at 2692 Madison Road.

Also, you may want to plan on bringing your Joseph-Beth coupon (from your Read-a-Thon Welcome Folder) to get 20% off book purchases! Make your day one of donating, saving, and reading!
Keep Collecting Box Tops!
Don't forget to take a minute to cut out your box tops! Everything from Go-gurts, to Ziploc bags, to your box of Cheerios! Reference the whole list of Box Top products by clicking here. HPS will make their first submission to Box Tops on November 1, and we want to have a slew of them!

Mrs. Hughes Needs your Old Phone! Below is the List of Compatible Ones.
Parents, we are so excited to be bringing the world of virtual reality to our students this year!!! Virtual Reality is an exciting technology that allows us to take students on amazing adventures while enhancing their understanding of the concepts being taught in the classroom. Imagine being able to travel inside a cell to see the inner workings, or visit the Andes Mountains to see first hand the effects of erosion, or go diving deep into the Pacific Ocean to learn about how whales migrate & feed. There are so many exciting adventures waiting for our students in the world of virtual reality. The devices we will be utilizing are made by Mattell and they are specifically designed for children. Remember those old View-Master toys we had as kids? Well, they've had a major upgrade!!! If you'd like to learn more, please visit their website & learn all about this amazing product.

All we need to make this dream a reality for our kids is your old smartphones! If you have any old smartphones lying around collecting dust, we can use them!!! Thanks for all that you do to support our mission here at Hyde Park School.
  1. If you would like to donate a phone, please check the list of compatible phones to see if your phone is listed, if not, don't worry, it may still work. We can give it a try & return it if it doesn't fit.
  2. The phone does not need to be connected to a cell phone service, we will connect to the apps using the CPS wifi services.
  3. Next, we need phones to be wiped clean of all personal information. Please delete photos, contacts, apps, etc. You can do this easily by returning the phone to factory settings.
  4. Finally, please remember to include the charger so we can keep phones charged for students use.
