Welcome to our new employees!

Frieda Nageak, External Affairs Coordinator

Frieda was born and raised in Barrow, however, lived in Anchorage most of her adult life. Her parents are the late Roy Nageak and Flossie Nageak. She and her family moved back to Barrow in March of 2019. Frieda is a mother of 4 boys. Frieda is an active member in her community, and you most likely have seen her out and about at a school or cultural event. She loves going hunting, camping, and learning about her Iñupiaq culture with her partner and boys. Some additional passions include, cooking, kayaking, fishing, caribou hunting, picking rocks on beach, and spending all summer at Pigniq.

Frieda has over a decade of project administration and management experience that has allowed her to work with various clients and customers, as well as building an extensive organizational and tracking skillset. Her most recent employment was working at NSB CIPM as a Project Administrator.

Frieda is passionate when it comes to serving her community. She has been a NSBSD School Board member since October 2020 and was reelected for a 2nd term in October 2022. She serves as the Board Secretary and on the following NSBSD committees: Nutrition, Safety, and Legislative & Finance. Frieda is the Champion/Chairperson for Nunaaqqiurat Tumitchiaŋit Student Outcomes sub-committee. When asked what excites her about her role, she said, “I am super excited, honored and thankful to be joining the Iḷisaġvik team. Hope to make an impact in our community and students lives. Kii Atautchikun”. Frieda also shared a quote from Ralph Waldo, “Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail.”
