Understanding the Employee Separation Process Webinar

Last Thursday, Employee & Labor Relations (ELR) hosted the Understanding the Employee Separation Process webinar, designed to give employees a clear overview of how voluntary separations and internal transfers are managed. The session also highlighted key policies and shared best practices to support smooth and seamless transitions.

Policy Updates

Please make sure to familiarize yourself with any policies and policy updates that may impact your work here at FIU!

The following policies were recently updated and published:

• 175.150 Digital Communications Standards: This policy ensures all website and app content is accurate, accessible, and aligned with the university’s mission and responsibilities.
• 380.0449 Incomplete Grades (IN) for Graduate and Undergraduate Students: This policy provides guidelines for the awarding of an Incomplete (IN) grade and the process for completion.
• 380.0444 Graduate Application for Graduation and Degree Conferral: This policy sets forth the requirements for students to apply for and receive a graduate degree from the university.
• 1710.141 Optional Work Schedule Policy (formerly Flexible Work Arrangement Policy): This policy establishes optional work modalities, along with clear standards and processes for implementing work schedules that support operational effectiveness, employee engagement, and organizational goals that help advance Florida International University’s (FIU) mission and operational needs.

Drug Free Campus Policy

With our new academic year in full swing, our community's safety is a top priority.

Be sure to brush up on FIU's Drug-Free Campus/Workplace Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Policy.

This policy contains information about unlawful manufacturing, distribution, dispensation, possession, use, trade, or sale of a controlled substance or alcohol. Any violation of this policy by a university student, faculty or staff shall constitute grounds for: 

• Evaluation and/or referral to treatment for drug/alcohol abuse
• Disciplinary action
• Criminal sanction

Although FIU respects an individual’s rights, such rights cannot outweigh the need to maintain a safe, productive, and drug-free work and educational environment.
