September is National Preparedness Month!

As September winds down, it's important to remember that the 2025 National Hurricane season is still active.

Here are some tips to help you stay alert and prepared:

  • Keep an eye on your emergency supplies and don't wait until the last minute to storm your local stores for essentials.
  • Stock up on water, non-perishable foods, batteries, and medications.
  • Review your emergency plans and talk through your evacuation routes and communication plans with friends and family.
  • Avoid heavily flooded areas and stay away from high-water zones whenever possible.
  • Monitor weather alerts to stay informed about storm developments and safety tips.

For more information on emergency preparedness, visit the FIU Department of Emergency Management.

Preparedness applies to your work environment too! Reporting safety concerns helps EH&S proactively address items that could become hazards during major weather events.
