The third-annual Juneteenth Celebration is taking place from Saturday, June 10 - Monday, June 19. Check out a few of the many scheduled events:


Friday, June 16:

  • Join us at Tamiami Hall for a morning of mindfulness and healing at Amanda Bazil's Afro Yoga, from 10 a.m. - 11a.m.
  • At 12 p.m., certified EEC facilitator Dr. Jameta N. Barlow will be hosting an Emotional Emancipation Circle.


Saturday, June 17:

  • Immerse yourself at our Freedom Day Celebration from 1- 5 p.m., featuring activities such as a guided painting session, a Bacardi lounge, and performances by Guitar Over Guns, DJ Slim City, and DJ Bree.


The first 200 faculty and staff, as well as the first 200 students to register, will receive a $15 food voucher to enjoy at any of the food trucks.

The FIU Embrace Education program is recruiting faculty and staff who are interested in becoming student mentors.

 

This program is a non-degree, inclusive postsecondary transition program for students with Intellectual Disabilities and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

 

The primary goal of the program is to offer a comprehensive and integrated university-based education that is inclusive, accessible, and promotes competitive integrated employment and independent living.

 

The FIU Embrace Education's new addition, the Faculty Mentor Program, aims to provide our students with the support necessary to navigate challenges faced during the college transition. This enriching mentorship opportunity spans one academic year with an opportunity to continue at the beginning of the following academic year.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Full-time faculty or staff
  • Available to meet with student(s) one hour per week

 

Faculty and staff members who are interested in participating, should contact FIU Embrace Education. The registration deadline is Friday, June 30.

The FIU President’s Council is pleased to announce it is now accepting nominations for the President’s Council Real Triumphs Faculty Award!


All full-time faculty who have been employed at FIU for a minimum of three years are eligible to apply. The award recipient will receive a cash award of $15,000.


The President’s Council welcomes participation from all academic disciplines. The award will be conferred at the Faculty Convocation Award Ceremony in Fall 2023.
