Your mental health and wellbeing are important to us. Each year, millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health condition. Mental illness can affect you directly or indirectly, through family, friends, or peers.

During the first week of October, the Office of Employee Assistance (OEA) raises awareness for mental illnesses, fights discrimination, and provides support through Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW). If you or someone you care about is struggling with their mental health, the OEA is here to help! Please consider the following:

  • Take a free, confidential and anonymous mental health screening.
  • Register for a two-part webinar to learn more about mental health and related illnesses.
  • Schedule a free and confidential consultation with OEA.

The OEA is Help Within Reach.

Questions? Contact OEA at 305-348-2469.

No one is an island, if you're going through stressful times, there's no reason to go through them alone. Reaching out to others is a natural way to feel supported, and having conversations with others helps calm you and your nervous system down to help get you back on track. It's something within your power, that can help you in tackling life's challenges.

The Gathering Place is a support group that meets the first Friday of every month at 12 p.m. to explore ways to counter stress overload, bolster your mood, improve your outlook, and preserve your mental well-being.

This group will provide a safe and nurturing environment where attendees can feel heard, understood, and cared for.

Join the Panthers Thriving Book Club and connect with fellow Panthers to learn and grow stronger together.

On Thursday, October 6, they will begin a new book, The War for Kindness - Building Empathy in a Fractured World. It is an inspiring call to action book. The future may depend on whether we can accept the challenge of being empathetic, also known as the 'empathy deficit'. In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Jamil Zaki shares cutting-edge research, including experiments from his own neuroscience lab, showing that empathy is not a fixed trait—something we’re born with or not—but rather a skill that can be strengthened through effort. Over time we can fine-tune our emotional capacities and build compassion to deal with life's challenges.

The first five Panthers to register will receive a free copy of the book.
