Not making any changes to your health insurance benefits in 2022?
There’s no need to re-enroll in health insurance if you are not making any changes; your current elections will remain the same. However, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) do not automatically renew. If you want to contribute to an FSA, you MUST plan your contributions for 2022 during this enrollment period, even if you had an FSA last year.

Important Highlights for 2022
- Our healthcare costs continue to rise due to new drugs, new technologies, where we live, our aging workforce and the impact of COVID-19. The employee contribution rate for Cigna will increase by 10 percent for 2022.
- As you may know, we offer a lower-cost alternative—the local EmblemHealth HMO plan. If your doctor participates in this plan, and if you're okay with a local health plan instead of a national health plan, you may wish to consider enrolling in EmblemHealth. Emblem is increasing the employee contribution rate for Emblem by 6.9 percent.
- There are no rate increases for EyeMed Vision, Voluntary Supplemental Life or Long-Term Disability insurance.
- The rate for Cigna Dental PPO insurance will increase by 5 percent.
- There will be no increase for the Cigna Dental HMO insurance.
About premium rate increases
- Adelphi University offers comprehensive benefit programs and subsidizes the vast majority of these programs.
- We are in the process of reviewing our plan designs, contributions and other programs. Our goal is to continue to provide competitive benefits but to offer more affordable plan choices in 2023.
- $400 for an individual Cigna account holder
- $750 for a Cigna family policy
NOTE: Effective January 1, 2022, OPTUM will be the new plan administrator for all Adelphi FSA/HRA accounts, (Healthcare, Dependent Care, Transit/Parking and HRA accounts). If you enroll in Cigna insurance, please be on the lookout for a mailing to your home that will include your new OPTUM debit card, effective January 1, 2022. You will continue to use your WageWorks card through December 31, 2021.

Want to save money? Open a Flexible Spending Account.
Keep in mind the FSA account(s) are use-it-or-lose-it plans—funds must be spent during the benefit year, as any unspent balance is forfeited. Be sure to plan carefully in order to maximize savings.
These accounts let you use pretax money to pay for eligible healthcare expenses while reducing taxable income, such as:
- Co-payments—office visits, specialists, emergency room visits and prescriptions
- Deductibles—the amount you must pay before insurance covers your claims
- Coinsurance—your part of the shared payment of the claim
- Dental care
- Eye exams, glasses and contacts
- Laser eye surgery
- Orthodontia
- Over-the-counter medical supplies
Did you contribute to an FSA last year?
Flexible Spending Account elections must be made annually, so make sure to re-enroll if you’d like to have an account this year.
