NLRB Scales Back Employee Protections

Fewer employees--unionized and non unionized--will be covered by the National Labor Relations Act due to a recent National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) decision limiting the definition of what constitutes "protected, concerted activity." The board also suggested that it may continue to chip away at the definition in the future.
Section 7 of the act establishes the right of employees to engage in concerted activities for their mutual aid or protection. Concerted activity includes individual employees trying to encourage group action.
Prior to the Jan.11th ruling of
Alstate Maintenance where
an employee who protested in a meeting was presumed to be initiating group action. The board's recent decision held that this can't be assumed but instead should be determined by a fact-based inquiry that considers all evidence. To read the full article,

EEO-1 Report Filing Deadline March 31, 2019: How to Comply so You Don't Get Fined
Alert: Filing the Employer Information Report (EEO-1) is mandatory for employers with 100 or more employees and for federal contractors with 50 or more employees, and the filing deadlines for 2018 is coming up fast on March 31, 2019.
Meeting EEO-1 report filing obligations often creates a host of HR--and we've got answers, including what is meant on the EEOC's website where it states that for the 2018 EEO-1, the EEOC "will continue to collect race, ethnicity and gender data by job category."
