Welcome to The Scoop

By BRENDA JACK

We listened, we met, we conquered!

Welcome to the first issue of The Scoop, an internal newsletter for our colleagues in UMass Chan's Office of Human Resources and inspired by our former deputy executive vice chancellor, Deborah Harnois.

We are excited to launch this newsletter, which will inform and inspire you on a quarterly basis. Whether you are planning to add zest to your table by introducing a new recipe, look for that hidden treasure to capture memories, or learn more about your colleagues—there will be something in each issue for you.

If you would like to be featured in our newsletter, or know someone who you think should be featured, send a note to The Scoop team. Read below to learn how to submit your news.

Celebrate with us, keep reading, and then share the newsletter with a colleague.

Learning about Impactful African Americans; Jacob Lawrence's Art

By TIFFANY HEARN

This is the first year that Juneteenth became a federally recognized and observed holiday.

As members of the greater (and beyond) Worcester area, we are lucky to view art from one of the most impactful African American artists of the 20th century, locally.

Jacob Lawrence was an African American artist who painted on chip board and paper using tempura or gauche paint in contrast to the “classic” idea of canvas and oil paint.

Turmeric milk is known for eliminating infectious agents from the respiratory system. As such, it could be an effective long-term remedy for asthma, bronchitis, other lung conditions.
