HAMDEN'S PARTNERSHIP FOR YOUNG CHILDREN: Parent Ambassador Needed
What is a Parent Ambassador?
Parent ambassadors are the local voice that completes the Office of Early Childhood’s (OEC’s) Parent Cabinet; they provide the local needs and successes to the Office of Early Childhood, which in turn affects policies, programs, and ultimately legislation. They work together with the Local Governance Partner’s (LGP’s) Director and leadership team to create programs and events that will promote parent engagement within their local communities. Per grant requirements, Hamden’s Partnership for Young Children (HPYC) will have 3 Parent Ambassadors.
What are the roles and responsibilities of the Parent Ambassador?
• Attend statewide meetings set by the CT Office of Early Childhood and Shine Early Learning (the intermediary working with OEC and Towns to support the work. (usually quarterly via Zoom)
• Participate in workshops and other events when appropriate.
• Participate in training and leadership development opportunities.
• With the support of HPYC and OEC, encourage, support, and educate new parents.
• Disseminate resources to Hamden parents
• Create, execute, and participate in family events to benefit the needs of Hamden children and families
• Represent HPYC at Hamden family events (example: Hamden Fest, National Night Out, etc.)
• Support causes that benefit families and children; however, Parent Ambassadors are expected to maintain neutrality in public forums regarding political parties and personal political opinions when representing the position and the LGP
• As representatives, Parent Ambassadors work with the intention of being respectful, polite, and kind to all they encounter
What is the Compensation structure for Parent Ambassadors?
This is a stipend position, at $25 per hour. From 7/1/25-6/30/27, 120 hours per year is supported by the grant. A monthly invoice should be submitted to the LGP Coordinator. Parent Ambassadors are responsible for reporting personal income above $600 to the State of CT.
