AFTER BREAK BREAKDOWN!

After winter break, HS^2 will be shaking up our normal schedule!

January 3-6: The last normal week of 1st semester. This week we will have NO Green Day on Wednesday, and it will be a regular BLUE day.

January 9-19: Winter workshops!

No School Days: January 16, 20, and 23

January 24: 2nd Semester Starts!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Further Details:

Last Normal Week: This week we will have two blue and two gold days for students to attend their classes and finalize anything needed for the 1st semester. While some classes might be ending 1st semester, other classes might simply pause for workshops, while other classes might continue to meet throughout workshops.

Workshops: Workshops will start on Monday January 9 and will run until Thursday January 19. Workshops, like Green Days, are a feature of HS^2 that helps students continue working on content, catch up on late work, get ahead in their classes, or explore other opportunities.

While students are still required to attend their Legacy classes during Workshops (following the campus blue/gold schedule), many HS^2 teachers do not require a student to take particular classes during this time, or will offer flexibility of which block they sign up for. When a class is not meeting, students have agency to still sign up for extra course work time, sign up for extra time in a class that wouldn't normally meet on that particular day, or sign up for unique classes such as Yoga, Lego Building, Cake Decorating, Photography, Spanish Book Clubs, or Online Daily Games.

Students signed up for workshops on Monday of this week and will be sent their finalized workshop schedule after winter break.

No School Days:

January 16 & January 23 - These dates are Campus wide Professional Development days for the staff. Students will have no school on these days.

January 20 - This is an HS^2 ONLY no school day. The HS^2 Staff will be meeting all day to work on school improvement and development. While HS^2 students will not have any HS^2 course expectations on this day, they still will be required to attend their Legacy courses.

MEET THE STUDENTS

ANASTASSIA M. ~ FRESHMAN

What made you decide to choose HS^2?

I’m interested in the medical field, and I wanted to be surrounded by like-minded people. Being in a smaller community was also appealing to me.

Which outreach option(s) are you excited about?

I am excited about the CNA and Life at the Firehouse outreach, because I want to work in a hospital. Even if it’s not a hospital, I want to work in a similar healthcare-driven environment. The Fire and Rescue Workshop really sparked an interest in both healthcare and paramedic aspects for me.

What do you want to do in the future?

I am interested in becoming a pediatric oncologist or a paramedic.

What’s something about HS^2 that’s different than you expected?

One thing that’s different, especially switching from middle school to high school, is that teachers are so close with students! They are always interested in students’ well-being. It feels like more of a community than I expected.

What extracurricular activities are you involved in?

I was on our high school swim team during the fall and I am currently playing lacrosse for high school as well. During the swim off season, I swim for a local club team. Throughout the years, I have also played the piano.
