DPI SCHOOL REPORT CARDS RELEASED

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) made public its accountability reports - or state report cards - for the 2021-2022 school year. These report cards include data on multiple indicators for multiple years across four Priority Areas (Achievement, Growth, Target Group Outcomes, and On-track to Graduation). In addition, the report cards provide course and program participation information for grades 9-12 for public schools and districts.

While we recognize that there is always growth to be had, and that these scores are not the only measurement by which you should judge a school, HS^2 is proud to announce it received the Top High School Score in the state, 96.8, which Significantly Exceeds Expectations.

You can view the full HS^2 Report card HERE.

STUDENTS RECOGNIZING STUDENTS

Have you heard of our new "Ducky Awards"?

HS^2 has so many great students, and we want all of them to be recognized! New this year, we are offering students weekly ways to recognize their peers for hard work, acts of kindness, making the school community better, and more!

Once a week HS^2 starts the school day by gathering together to pause and reflect on our great school community. Students can anonymously or publicly recognize a peer. Once a student is recognized, they can then pass it on the following week by recognizing another student. We hope this small addition helps spread positivity and a focus on hard work and continuous growth for all students.

FAMILY COLLABORATION GROUP

Thanks to all the parents that have already joined the HS^2 Family Collaboration Group! If you missed it, earlier this year an HS^2 parent group was formed in order to increase communication and provide a feedback loop as we work towards continuous school improvement. The group meets monthly with a different focus area each month. So far this year, we have analyzed parent survey results, looked at standardized test results and growth, and discussed 22-23 school goals. Our next meeting is scheduled for December 1st from 6-7pm. Please complete this google form to be included in further communication and calendar invites.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DAY

In working towards our goal of developing as engaged citizens, HS^2 is hoping to start a new tradition: Community Engagement Day! The first Community Day will be on Wednesday, December 21st, which is the last day before winter break. As a school, the entirety of HS^2 will be participating in community events whether its volunteering at a shelter, making or collecting items to donate, helping out at the elementary and middle schools, or planning a drive or other event. The purpose of this is for students have an opportunity to be engaged citizens within the community both inside and outside of HS^2, which is a disposition on KM’s Graduate Profile!

To make this day be as successful as possible, we might need some outside help! If any non-students are interested in driving or chaperoning for this day, or have any volunteer ideas or connections within the community, please contact HS^2 Director Mrs. Ladsten at ladstenr@kmsd.edu.

MEET THE TEACHERS ~ MRS. BASTHEMER

What classes do you teach in HS^2 and which one is your favorite?

This year I am teaching Physics, Conceptual Physics, Physical Science, Medical Terminology, Digital Literacy in Healthcare, AP Environmental Science, Photojournalism, AP Computer Science A, and AP Computer Science Principles. I love them all for different reasons, but my favorite class to teach is probably Physics as I have been teaching it the longest!

What do you like most about HS^2?

I love working with a staff that pushes me, and collaborates with each other so well! I like that students have so many choices to be able to make their own path in what they want to study. I also really enjoy the community of HS^2, and that I get to know a student really well over their High School journey.

What is something people may not know about you?

This is my 10th year teaching in KM! In my free time I do not like to sit still! Some things I enjoy are being with my family, sewing, fishing, kayaking, golfing, going for walks and hikes, and reading.

Where did you attend school?

I got my Bachelors of Science Degree at UW-Superior and my Masters at Marian University.
