This week all Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors in HS^2 received the results from the ACT Aspire and Forward Exams. Students took these exams in the spring of last school year to give them an idea of how they would score on future standardized tests (such as the ACT), compare to state and national averages, indicate growth over time, as well as areas in need of support. These scores, while designed to predict future performance and current knowledge of essential subjects, are just a snapshot in time of the student.

On Monday, October 3 the HS^2 students were to send home Mid-Term Progress Reports with an attached reflection on their current grades, progress, and celebrations & action steps for continuing. Keep in mind, these are in-progress grades, not final grades, which means students still have the ability to make changes to improve their scores. We hope that these reports can help facilitate a conversation between advisors, students, and guardians. Students and parents will continue to have access to these reports via Infinite Campus under the Reports section.

Thank you to everyone that completed feedback surveys last year! We value this feedback and use it to reflect and make improvements to the school. This year, one of our goals is to increase understanding of students’ progress and achievement in classes. In an effort to collect data on the impact of our changes, we’d like to collect baseline data from families. Returning parents, please complete this survey to help inform staff of how often and effective different tools were in monitoring student progress and achievement during the 21-22 school year. Near the end of the year we will collect additional data for comparison.

The HS^2 spirit wear order forms were sent to the students last week, with paper copies available as needed. Orders may be paid by cash or check, and should be submitted to Mrs. Kopidlansky by Monday, October 17!

What is one fact about you that most people may not know?

I coached the 2008 Boys Track State Championship Team. Also I met Princess Diana.

What college did you graduate from?

Knox College and Regis University

What led you to become an HS^2 Teacher? 

A long time ago when Mr. Plum was beginning this program I thought it was a great idea and now that I am back at the high school I am thankful that I can teach in HS^2.

What do you like about HS^2?

The outreach opportunities is awesome for our students. Also I love the cooking time on Green Days!

Describe your dream vacation.

I hope to someday visit space and fly on a spaceship! However, in the meantime maybe I can visit the Disney Star Wars hotel and attraction.
