CLASH of the HS^2 Advisories
Introducing the CLASH, or the Cut-throat Legendary Advisory Showdown of HS^2! Led by Junior class representatives Kent M. and Kunal S., the advisories are pit against each other to compete for points. The games consist of weekly challenges and monthly games, along with other special events as the year goes on. There will be a prize along with bragging rights for the advisory with the most amount of points by the end of the school year, so everyone is encouraged to work together within their advisory to complete the challenges. So far we've seen a riddle and an origami frog scavenger hunt.
A New Indoor Garden Arrives At HS^2
One of the newest installments in Mrs. Mau’s room is a Tower Garden by Juice Plus+ for growing plants. This type of tower is used for growing vegetable plants and microgreens indoors. In each container on the outside of the Tower Garden, there is a cube of rockwool insulation and a single growing sprout. She brought the garden from home to give her students some experience growing plants through the winter and is currently growing many varieties of edible plants in the Tower Garden. Some of the plants growing are cilantro, spinach, kale, basil, rainbow chard, and peppers. She plans to use the Tower Garden mostly in her Nutrition class to give her students opportunities to see the full life cycle of common edible plants and to make their own salad mixes and other healthy plant-based foods. One of Mrs. Mau’s future goals is to invite elementary students from KM Explore to come watch a presentation on the Tower Garden and give them opportunities to learn about different ways to grow plants. She also hopes to partner with a local microgreen company and have them visit her Nutrition class to talk to her students and KM Explore about the science behind growing microgreens. We would love to improve upon our garden we already have by bringing it indoors in the winter months to start feeding some of our students!
HS^2 Students Help With
New Legacy Workshop!
The Legacy Outdoor Adventure Games class has started to get involved with Lake Country Fire and Rescue through a new workshop! Students from the class spent 2 days rotating through 4 different stations manned by LCFR and HS^2 students! Stations included donning, search and rescue, an obstacle course, and EMS skills. Students learned what gear firefighters wear, how to stop a bleeding wound, how firefighters get through small spaces, and much more!
