Director's Message
Thank you to all of you that have already completed the Student and Parent Surveys released this week! The 2021-22 HS^2 school goal is to increase student and parent engagement throughout the year. A few ways we are doing this is through implementing this HS^2 Newsletter, increasing the number of and involvement of HS^2 student representatives, individual check-ins between advisors and students, and monthly emails home to parents from the students regarding progress. Now that we are one quarter of the way through the school year, we would like feedback from you all! If you have not already, please complete this Student or Parent survey to share your feedback with HS^2.

As we have recently finished term 1, you may have questions about student grades. All completed grades for both HS^2 and KMHS can be found in Infinite Campus. This is the student's official transcript. As a reminder, only credits that are complete will show up on a student's transcript in Infinite Campus. Any credits that are still in progress can be found in MyLC. Therefore, you may not see any final grades posted for term 1 depending on the individual student's goals/plan. If you would like to recieve the weekly emails from MyLC, specific instructions can be found within this document.

HS^2 Students Help With
Dousman Science Fair
HS^2 students are helping out with the Dousman Elementary Science Fair! This Wednesday, the 5th graders traveled to the High School Campus where they tried out different HS^2 student-led experiments (Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Physics) to jumpstart ideas for their own science fair projects and also met with their High School mentors. Moving forward, the Dousman and HS^2 students will have Google Meet mentoring sessions to work on their projects and prepare for the science fair on March 13! We cannot wait to see what the students come up with!
~ CLASS SPOTLIGHT ~
Environmental Science
The HS^2 Environmental Science class, taught by Mr. Lui, is currently in its Agriculture unit! The class is learning about soil, and are doing a research project to create their own soil to grow rye grass. The students have different choices to make their soil, including sand, sawdust, fertilizer, potting soil, and soil from the HS^2 garden!
Volunteer Opportunity
Support a local hospital organization by applying to volunteer for Aurora Medical Center Summit! Please note that all volunteers must be at least 15 years of age, fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by October 15, 2021, receive an annual flu vaccination, and be able to commit to a minimum of 64 volunteer hours during a calendar year.

Volunteers can apply by clicking on the following link which takes them to the volunteer application.
