October 1, 2021
And just like that, a whole month of school has already flown by! This month included our first Fire and Rescue workshop, a fun-filled homecoming week, student-led conferences, and three “Green day” Wednesdays, where students had the opportunity to participate in fun activities and classes where they could have extra work time on anything they needed to complete.
Missed Conferences?
We were excited to welcome students and families to meet in person on September 20th and 28th for our student-led conferences! During conferences, we discussed school year goals and plans for success, a brief update on school progress so far, and some discussion topics on general school updates.

If you happened to miss conferences but would still like to meet (face-to-face or virtually) please contact your student’s advisor through the “staff contact” link found at the bottom of this newsletter!
Sign up to Receive the MyLC Parent Digest!
This year, the High School of Health Sciences will be using MyLC full-time for all coursework and academic planning. Parents should refer to MyLC throughout the year for updates on student progress, current grades, assignments, and due dates. Specific instructions for signing up to receive weekly parent emails from MyLC can be found in this document.
Volunteer Opportunity
Support a local hospital organization by applying to volunteer for Aurora Medical Center Summit! Please note that all volunteers must be at least 15 years of age, fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by October 15, 2021, receive an annual flu vaccination, and be able to commit to a minimum of 64 volunteer hours during a calendar year.

Volunteers can apply by clicking on the following link which takes them to the volunteer application.
What is Outreach?
One graduation requirement for HS^2 is two credits of outreach. Outreach includes a variety of experiences where students get to interact with and learn from people from different occupations. This helps students find their passions, gain connections in fields they are interested in, while also creating future job opportunities. Experiences offered through HS^2 include CNA, EMT, Scientific Research and Design, Public Safety, and Fire Fighter 1.

While two credits are required, students can always do more if it fits into their High School plan. Additionally if none of the HS^2 options are of interest, students can design their own outreach experiences. A full list and descriptions of the HS^2 designed outreach experiences can be found on the school profile and in the course description guide on the website.

Join the HS^2 Inktober Challenge!
Inktober is an event that occurs during October to encourage people to develop their art skills. A list of 31 one-word prompts is made available before October begins and the idea is to make one drawing a day based on the prompt. This Wednesday, Mr. Van Dyke led a Green Day session in which students were introduced to the concept and came up with a list of prompts specific to HS^2. We would like to invite anyone and everyone to join our Inktober challenge and share your creations with us!
HS^2 Information Nights!

HS^2 will be hosting information nights on the dates listed above. These meetings are for students and families who are interested in attending HS^2 for the 2022-2023 school year. Please spread the word if you know anyone who is interested in learning more about our school. For more information click HERE.
