 CVHS Virtual Open House
We are excited to share our CVHS Virtual Open House presentation with parents! Since we are unable to bring all of our families into the building for a traditional Open House, our staff has created a wonderful alternative for you to experience. Please look below for the link to the HS virtual Open House. It is filled with a collection of individualized videos, pictures, classroom resources, and parent-teacher conference sign-ups for each teacher in an interactive slide presentation. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for November 2 and will be held by phone or Google Meet.
You may find it helpful to first watch this brief video on how to navigate our virtual Open House: click here for the video. Once in the Open House presentation, you will find a staff photo on the first page. Click anywhere on the page to advance to the first interactive slide. If after viewing the presentation you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
Parkway moved to 4 days in-person
Parkway's 4 day in-person learning began on Thursday, October 29th. Parkway’s in-person days will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. At this time, Parkway will only allow 4 day in-person attendance or fully cyber. They do not have a 2 day option.

For 4 day in-person CVHS students who attend parkway:
  1. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays: Students attend a full day of in-person instruction. CV will bus students to Parkway in the AM, shuttle to CVHS mid-day and bring them home in the afternoon.
  2. On Wednesdays, CV will pick up students up at their normal bus stops 3 & ½ hours after their normal morning bus pick-up time.
  3. On Fridays, CV will pick up students in the am and take them home mid-day.

Greetings Chartiers Valley Families,

It is hard to believe we are entering the month of November. While the first quarter of the school year was one of transition and uncertainty, our community, staff, and students have been wonderful in supporting the District and complying with COVID-19 requirements. Because of your diligence, we have been able to offer and maintain a four-day in-person learning option to our students. Thank you!

Understandably, there will be turbulence as we navigate through the remainder of this school year. However, through careful planning, preparation and a shared commitment to working together, we will continue to successfully provide for our students and community.

The terms “grit” and “resiliency” have been buzzwords in the world of education in recent years. How do we teach our children to navigate these difficult times, especially those who, before COVID-19, were fortunate enough to have experienced minimal hardship?  I suppose a silver lining of living through a pandemic may be that we are all acquiring and developing critical career-readiness skills. Learning to overcome, problem solve, and think creatively are soft skills that the greatest minds employ. Following this time of crisis, perhaps the next chapter will find the emergence of Resolve, Resilience, Return, Re-imagining, and Reform. (Mckinsey & Co: Beyond the coronavirus: The path to the next normal).

As many of you know, teachers have been assessing student learning throughout the first nine weeks. As a District, we are committed to delivering our high-quality curriculum and instruction, and it is very important that we continue to provide robust educational programs. As such, the District has modified its upcoming holiday calendar dates to offer essential teacher professional development. Tuesday, December 1, and Monday, January 4 are now District Teacher Professional Development days. There will be no school for students on these days.

Proudly, we have thus far maintained our most crucial aspect -- providing education to our students. We must continue following safety protocols with diligent compliance. Wear face masks in school and during school functions and events, wash hands often, stay home if you are ill, and notify the school if your student has any symptoms. We mustn’t let our guard down now, Chartiers Valley!

Have a wonderful Monday, and remember it’s a great day to be a Colt!
Most Sincerely,

Johannah M. Vanatta, Ed.D.

Daily Screening Reminder
Please remember to screen your child for COVID-19 symptoms prior to school each morning. Click here for a helpful screening checklist. If they are not feeling well, please keep your child home. If you have any questions about whether your child should stay home from school, please contact your School Nurse.

Health Services Website
Please check out our website https://www.cvsd.net/student-services/nursehealth to find forms for medication, physicals and dental exams, and information regarding health topics including COVID-19.

Dental Visits
The Smile Mobile Dentist visits have been postponed until May due to COVID-19 concerns. As of now, the dates are as follows:
May 3, 2021 - Intermediate School
May 4, 2021 - Primary School
May 5, 2021 - Middle School

Our typical screening timeline for weight, height, vision, and hearing will be pushed back to a later time. Our department wants to ensure that screenings are performed in the safest way possible. If you have specific concerns about your child, please reach out to your building’s School Nurse.

Flu vaccines will be highly recommended this cold and flu season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Per the CDC, influenza vaccination will be paramount to reduce the impact of respirator illness in the population. Please contact your child’s health care provider for information on where to get a flu shot.

Our department is working hard to keep our students and staff healthy and safe. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your building School Nurse with any questions or concerns!
