This Week at BBHHS!
The Hive is always buzzing, even when we are on an extended break from regular classroom activities. Many of our winter athletic teams competed over the holiday break, with our boys' and girls' basketball teams traveling to Florida for winter tournaments. Both programs had outstanding showings and represented Ohio, our communities, our school, and their programs extremely well in their tournaments.
Our girl's basketball team competed in the KSA Classic Basketball Tournament in Orlando. While in Orlando, the Lady Bees defeated last year's state-runner-up from Massachusetts and Deer Park Texas HS. Unfortunately, the Lady Bees fell in the finals to a highly ranked team from Virginia, The Potomac School, in a close contest in the championship game, 55-46. Congratulations to Bridget Barber, who was voted Team MVP by KSA officials for her outstanding play in the tournament.
The boy's basketball team returned to the Tampa Bay area to participate in the North Coast Christmas Tournament. This is an annual trip for the boy's program, and they once again made their presence known in Florida. The Bees won three games and were again crowned the North Coast Christmas Tournament Champions! The boys were led by Brady Ganley, who was selected as the tournament MVP! Joining Brady were Steven Skaljac and Ben Mehendale who were selected as All-Tournament First Team Players.
The Bees Swim Team showcased their talent at the Viking Invitational held at Cleveland State University on Saturday, December 21, bringing 12 swimmers to compete against some of the best in the region.
Leading the way for the Bees were senior Savannah Koepke, and sophomores Mallory Koepke and Ben Ackerman, all of whom advanced to finals in their respective events.
- Savannah Koepke delivered a standout performance in the 200-yard freestyle, achieving a season-best time of 2:08.28.
- Mallory Koepke impressed in the 100-yard breaststroke, posting both a season and personal best time of 1:12.91.
- Ben Ackerman excelled in the 100-yard breaststroke as well, clocking a season and personal best of 1:03.25, which currently ranks him 5th in Northeast Ohio for the event.
As the Bees celebrate their achievements at the Invitational, they now turn their focus to the Suburban League Championships. Junior diver Rachel Kirin aims to defend her Suburban League Diving Championship title this evening, while senior Broc Rousseau looks to claim a Suburban League title of his own.
Bees Wrestling was also very busy over the two-week holiday break. The Bees traveled to the Beast of the East Tournament held at the University of Delaware. The Brecksville-Broadview Heights wrestling team delivered an impressive performance, securing 5th place in the team standings. Notably, Junior Rylan Seacrist advanced to the finals in the 113-pound weight class, ultimately finishing as the runner-up after a closely contested match. Other place winners were Junior Anna Madi (120) and Senior Riley McPherson (215), who placed 5th, and Senior Harrison Haffner (126), who placed 6th.
Our wrestling program was ecstatic to host the 64th Brecksville Holiday Wrestling Tournament at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School on December 28th and 29th. The tournament featured numerous state-ranked wrestlers and nationally recognized teams, underscoring the high level of competition present at the longest-running holiday tournament in the nation. Once again, the Bees had an outstanding showing, finishing 3rd out of 46 teams in the field with four nationally ranked teams competing.
Holiday Tournament Champions included Rylan Seacrist (113), Harrison Haffner (126), and Riley McPherson (215). Sophomore Zack Aquila (157) and Junior Jace Jett (138) were Runner-Up FInalists, Junior EJ German (285) placed 4th, Senior Caden Pluhar placed 5th, and Freshman Lucas Schulz (106) placed 7th.
Thank you to our coaches, tournament advisory board, and many parent volunteers who helped make BBHHS shine to the thousand-plus visitors we had over the two-day period. The event is always well run and a destination tournament for many teams from Ohio and the nation. It would not be possible without your generous support.
Do not miss the Bees TONIGHT as they take on Perry in the Dual on the State, pitting two of the highest-ranked D1 teams in Ohio who are both nationally ranked.
