The mailing includes essential details about the upcoming Youth Risk Behavior Survey, facilitated by Case Western Reserve University as a part of the Center for Healthy Neighborhoods. Additionally, the mailing outlines the opt-out procedures, ensuring that BBHHS families have the necessary information to make informed decisions regarding their child's participation in the survey. We encourage you to review the contents of this mailing thoroughly. Should there be any inquiries or concerns regarding the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, please direct them to Mr. Kevin Jakub.

Colony Period Thankfest

This coming Wednesday, November 15th, during an extended Colony Period, we will again host a student and staff favorite Colony event known as Thankfest. Thankfest is an opportunity for our Colony groups to join together and spend time eating and socializing with one another. This will serve as an opportunity for our school community to share all that they are thankful for with one another.

Students can actively participate in this event by working with their Colony Period teacher to organize food items that can be donated and enjoyed within their Colony and neighboring Colonies.

What Students Can Do To Participate in Thankfest:

  1. This week, students were made aware by their Colony teacher that Thankfest is Wednesday, November 15th.
  2. The Colony teacher has discussed with students which items students can sign up to donate for this event.
  3. Breakfast-type items are suggested, as the students will eat during our morning Colony period.
  4. Items should be brought in ready to serve and considerate of dietary restrictions.
  5. Students can bring the food items they signed up for directly into their Colony period on the morning of Wednesday, November 15th.

Veterans Day Recognition

On Thursday, November 9th, Lieutenant Colonel Toth, a Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School alumnus from the Class of ‘84, visited BBHHS and shared his military career experience. Lieutenant Colonel Toth served as an Army Airborne Ranger and in the U.S. Army for 30 years and has since worked in a private role supporting the training and management of ROTC programs across the nation.

Lieutenant Colonel Toth shared his experiences as a veteran and connected his message back to his time as a student in the BBHCSD. He emphasized to students the importance of dedication and perseverance, and we were proud to have him share with our second and third-period Social Studies courses how his experiences as a student in the BBHCSD helped prepare him for his rich military career. Thank you to Mr. Backo and Mr. Drypolcher for planning this event.

In addition to the Veterans Day presentation by Lieutenant Colonel Toth yesterday, we unveiled the new dedicated space in the Main Lobby of BBHHS titled Heroes of the Hive. This space will be a permanent area in the halls of the high school that recognizes those alumni, faculty, and community members who have served our nation in the armed forces.

A huge thank you to Ms. Sarah Ignatz-Hoover, Mr. Kowatch, and Mr. Goubeaux for their work on the Heroes of the Hive. An even more special thank you to current BBHHS faculty members Mr. Mark Fields (Navy), Mr. Greg Roderick (Army), and Mr. Tony Firrugia (Army)for their service to our nation.

Yuletide Hunger Drive

It is with great joy and excitement that we announce the kickoff of our 41st annual Yuletide Hunger Drive. Once again, Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School will participate in this local philanthropic event. This longstanding tradition remains an opportunity for our staff, students, and community to positively impact those in need this holiday season.

The campaign is now active and will run through November 30th. The campaign at BBHHS will be led by our Student Government, which will host various competitions for students and serve as the collection agent for all donations. This year, we are focusing on specific items that are in high demand by local food banks. We kindly ask for your support in collecting the following items:

  • Boxed Cereal
  • Pasta
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Canned Fruit
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Canned Tuna

While these items are our primary targets, please remember that all non-perishable food items are welcomed and appreciated. Additionally, we are extending our support to include personal hygiene products, recognizing the importance of basic hygiene for those in need.

Thank you for your continued support in making the Yuletide Hunger Drive a meaningful experience for everyone involved. Let's come together to make this 41st year our most impactful year of the campaign yet. To learn more about the campaign and additional ways you can support this longstanding community giving tradition, you can review the official Yuletide press release found here.
