National Honor Society Induction

Congratulations to the 114 Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School students who were inducted today as new members of the BBHHS chapter of the National Honor Society. To qualify for the National Honor Society, a student must be a Junior or Senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher. Students who possess the minimum academic qualification are invited each fall to complete an application that is reviewed by a Faculty Council to determine eligibility.

NHS applicants must provide evidence of leadership, service, school, and community activities each year of high school. Additionally, applicants must secure a recommendation from a faculty member who can speak to their character. Students must exemplify in totality the following core pillars: Character, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service. Students in the 9th or 10th grades interested in being inducted into NHS are encouraged to speak to their counselor to begin reviewing their candidacy and qualifications in order to benefit their candidacy.

During the 80th NHS induction ceremony held at BBHHS, science teacher Mr.John Mutch, who was selected by current NHS members to serve as the faculty speaker for the induction ceremony, spoke to current National Honor Society members, inductees, and their families about the importance of taking on challenges, paying yourself first, the value of hardwork, and appreciating the support of those who offer you . In addition to Mr. Mutch, student speakers Mallorie Kostyack, Kayla Kosla, Jesse Hansen, and Cadence Guo addressed new members and their families on each pillar of NHS.

Special thank you to National Honor Society President Tallah Alalao, and NHS advisors Mrs. Jaci Owens, and Mrs. Jennifer Williams for their efforts in hosting and planning the ceremony.

We are excited to welcome these new students to our National Honor Society and challenge them to help be stewards of Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School.

Attn Students: Trial of New Tardy/Open Campus Scan System

After the break, we will trial a new tardy scanning system called Identimetrics. This system will link attendance directly to PowerSchool as our students scan into or out of the building for Tardies, Early Dismissals, and Late Arrivals.

This system will utilize a barcode scanner to scan digital student IDs. To streamline this process, we will be asking students to download the free Klarna App on their cell phones and create a digital student ID using their 9-digit Student ID Code. Directions for this process will be emailed out to students and shown on the morning announcements next Tuesday.

Creating this new digital student ID will ensure a streamlined process for students scanning into and out of the building. In preparation for this trial, please download the Klarna app!

Automated Phone Call Notification

The High School Attendance Office will be phasing in an automated calling system to notify parents of unexcused absences for students.  The parents of any student who has not reported to the first or second period and has not been called off school will receive the automated phone call at 9:15 AM each school day.  This automated phone call will prompt parents to call our high school attendance line or use the high school attendance reporting link on the attendance webpage.

Midterm/Final Schedule Begin Next Week

Please be aware of the planned Midterm and Semester Final Exam schedule beginning next week on Wednesday. The exam date and period schedule are established below. It is important to note that Midterm/Finals will be scheduled BEFORE the winter holiday break.

BBHHS will provide a daily lunch option, operate with the regularly scheduled transportation schedules, and offer an Open Campus structure for all students. If you do not wish to allow your child to have Open Campus privileges during exams, please complete the included Google Form.

Financial Aid Night

We invite you to the BBHHS auditorium on Monday, Dec. 16th at 7:00 PM for our annual Financial Aid Night, presented by Cami Barber from Kent State University Financial Services. While this session is most valuable to families of the Class of '25 the session is open to any parent wanting to learn more about the financial aid process.

This informative session will cover important topics, including:

  • The revamped FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
  • Scholarships, loans, and grants
  • Key information for financing your student’s college education

After the general presentation, there will be an opportunity for a Q&A where you can ask specific questions about the financial aid process.

For those who cannot attend in person, a livestream option will be available. A link will be provided on the morning of the event and linked to our district Google calendar. We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and look forward to seeing you on the 16th!

EOC Exam American Government

All students in first semester American Government class will take their End of Course exam on Thursday, January 9th. Students who have their Government class during periods 1-4 will take their exam beginning at 7:45 am in the Auxiliary Gym, while students who have their Government class during periods 5-9 will take their exam beginning at 11:00 am in the Auxiliary Gym.

Students will need to ensure their BBHCSD-issued Chromebook is charged and ready for the testing session, as the exam is taken electronically. More information will follow next week on Thursday, December 19 via student email.

School Messenger System

We have recently changed our mass communication system to a program called School Messenger. If you did not receive the mass notification call or text for the Thursday snow day, please take a moment to opt-in to School Messenger.

Information on how to join the BBHHCSD and BBHHS School Messenger lists can be found in the graphic below. Please note that some carriers may prevent mass calls from going through based on your phone settings. If you are not receiving calls and have opted in, please check with your carrier for potential setting issues to ensure important updates are received.

At this time, School Messenger is designed for use by parents only. We are working on developing protocols and settings to allow students to be added to School Messenger lists in the near future.

This Week at BBHHS!

Our holiday concert series continued with our band program Jazz Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble performing on Tuesday evening. The bands played some holiday classics and added some contemporary pieces as well. Special guests included Cousin Eddie (Mr. McRaild) and Rudolph himself during the festive performance! Our Student Government and Orchestra partnered to deliver Santa Grams to staff and students this past Thursday. Thank you to both groups for their efforts to bring cheer to BBHHS.

The Lady Bees Gymnastics team held their first home meet of the season this week, featuring impressive performances and exciting debuts. Arrison Audino, Gwyn Popielski, and Sasha Milanich made their varsity debut. A special highlight of the meet was Bailey Miller taking home gold on the beam—an excellent start to the season for the team!

Students also had the opportunity to explore future career paths through CVCC Field Exploration Trips. These trips are instrumental in helping students decide which programs to apply for in the upcoming year. Thank you to Mrs. Milano for coordinating these valuable experiences and supporting students as the CVCC application process opens. Best of luck to the more than 85 Bees who have already applied for junior-year programs at CVCC!

On the lanes, our Bowling team continues to dominate, securing another win against Solon at Rosewood Lanes. The team remains undefeated in head-to-head matchups—an impressive feat early in the season.

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Model UN team had an outstanding showing at this year’s State Competition. Congratulations to the following students for their remarkable achievements:

  • Chloe Grayson: Recognized with a Leadership Excellence Award for her exceptional preparation and guidance of the delegation.
  • Layan Eltayieb: Awarded Outstanding Delegate for her resolution focused on her home country of Sudan.
  • Switzerland Delegation: Received the Outstanding Resolution Award. Members include John Uhlir, Charlie Chatal, Simon Youssef, Brody Larkins, Alex Koch, and Rocco Dean.
  • John Uhlir: Elected as Council President for the 2025 conference—a significant leadership accomplishment!
