Seven Bees Recognized as National Merit Semifinalists

Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School is excited to announce that several exceptional BBHHS students have received the prestigious academic recognition of National Merit Semi-Finalists for the 2024 academic year. Please join us in recognizing Lyla Doucette, Parker Ely, John "Jack" Foley, Cadence Guo, Lillie Marsh, Julia Stephan, and Ryan Stewart as National Merit Semifinalists.

These students underwent a rigorous selection process to qualify as a 2024 National Merit Semi-Finalist. They exceled in the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), the initial screening tool utilized by earning Selection Index score that placed them among the highest-scoring students in the nation. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. Congratulations to these outstanding Bees.

Elena Miinea Earns Perfect ACT Score

Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School is also pleased to announce that senior Elena Miinea has achieved a perfect score of 36 on her most recent ACT exam. This score includes 36 in math, reading, and science and 35 in writing, which combined for her perfect composite score.

The ACT is a challenging standardized test for college admissions, and earning a perfect score is extremely rare. Less than 0.1% of students achieve a composite score of 36, highlighting the significance of Elena’s accomplishment. Congratulations to Elena and her family on her tremendous academic accomplishment.

Homecoming Parade Information

We are excited to announce that this year’s annual Homecoming Parade and bonfire will take place on Thursday, September 19th. The parade will follow the same route as last year: departing from Hilton, entering the BBHMS driveway, and traveling along the Board of Education driveway to the practice field located next to the Board of Education building.

Coaches and advisors will provide specific arrival details to their teams and members. Please note that no traffic other than float vehicles will be permitted to access the Hilton campus from Mill Road. All participants should be dropped off at the BOE building and then walk down the hill to the parade staging area.

The parade will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m., with the bonfire starting immediately after the parade concludes. We look forward to a fantastic Homecoming event!

Bees Alumni Spotlight

A popular saying of former Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School Principal Mr. Brian Wilch was, "Through these halls walk the finest of people!" His words remain as true today as they did during his tenure at Brecksville-BBHHS. This sentiment is reflected not only in our current talented student body but also in the remarkable alumni who have come before and left their mark.

We are proud to share recent photos of some of our alumni who continue to excel in their post-BBHHS pursuits. Graduates Matthew Petros '22 (pictured at center), Sam Naffah '23 (pictured at left), and Mari Pizem '24 (pictured at right) are pictured at the United States Naval Academy.

Additionally, we were thrilled to welcome home Marching Bee alumni Ayden Casa '22 and Rowan Hauer '23 as they performed with THE Ohio State Marching Band this past Sunday at Bees Stadium as they prepared for their performance at the Cleveland Browns home opener at Huntington Bank Stadium. Pictured with current BBHHS Band Director, Mr. Steve Cocchiola, are Ayden (at left) and Rowan (at right).

Their achievements and continued success exemplify the excellence of our school community. If you have a BBHHS graduate who is making their mark elsewhere, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mr. Jakub to share their accomplishments so that we can share their journey on our website and social media accounts!

Senior Counselor Meetings and Senior Parent Night

College and Career Counselors visited English classes this week to share pertinent information for graduation, the college application process, requesting and securing letters of recommendation, applying for financial aid, completing the Common Application, and much more.

Beginning September 17th, we encourage students to schedule one-on-one meetings for more individualized guidance and support regarding the above topics. Students will receive a link to schedule their 1:1 meetings during the day. Parents can attend these meetings with their students if they feel it is most beneficial.

Additionally, on Monday, September 16, we will host a Senior Parent Night at 7:00 p.m. to cover the pivotal role the parent/guardian plays in the college search and application process.  This meeting will be held in the BBHHS Auditorium program are encouraged to attend. This meeting will also be live-streamed and recorded for those unable to attend.
